SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over INDONESIA WARRIORS, 81-77 (OT)
The Warriors blew a 12-point lead in the final quarter to lose to the San Miguel Beermen in overtime.
Down 4 points with 25 seconds left in the game, the Beermen executed their offense perfectly, enabling Froilan Baguion to hit a 3-point shot to cut the Warriors’ lead to just 1. Warriors’ forward Rony Gunawan was unable to capitalize on his free throws late in the fourth quarter, managing to only put one in, opening up the door for the Beermen to tie or even win the game at 73 to 75. Baguion missed his shot with 5 seconds left, but Dalron Johnson was able tip in his miss to tie the game at 75, sending it into overtime, where SMB proved to be the steadier squad.
Dalron Johnson led all scoring with 27 points, Leo Avenido had 17 points, and Froilan Baguion produced a near-double-double with 14 points and 9 assists. From the Warriors’ end, Jonathan Smith finished with 21 points while Mario Wuysang added 18 points and 9 assists.
It was a very impressive win by the Beermen because they played most of the game with only one American import. Their new import Jarrid Famous just arrived in Manila yesterday morning and was still recovering from jetlag. Famous was scoreless in his 16 minutes of playing time, but should be fine by the time the Beermen play their next game on Sunday. Coach Bobby Parks would love to see a big contribution from Famous to stop the streaking Patriots.

WESTPORTS MALAYSIA DRAGONS over INDONESIA WARRIORS, 82-79
It was a very exciting afternoon in MABA Stadium as the Warriors lost another heartbreaker, this time to the Malaysia Dragons.
The Dragons’ Tiras Wade was the top scorer in this game with 32 points, followed by teammates Patrick Cabahug and Brian Williams with 19 points apiece,. Williams was also just a rebound shy of another double-double.
For the Warriors, Jon Smith led the scoring with 18 points followed by Rony Gunawan’s 15 and Mario Wuysang’s 14. Steve Thomas completed a double-double in this game with 12 points and 17 rebounds.
It was a close game to the very end. With less than a minute left to play, Mario Wuysang stepped up to the arc and hit a three-pointer, bringing the score to 79-81. Almost immediately, Tiras Wade was given the opportunity to put some space between his team and the Warriors when a Jon Smith foul put him on the free throw line. Unfortunately, Wade only made one of his attempts and the Warriors found themselves controlling the ball again with only 25 ticks left on the clock.
Rony Gunawan and Mario Wuysang once again found themselves with a chance to push the game into overtime, but, unfortunately, both failed to convert crucial three-point shots.

CHANG THAILAND SLAMMERS over BANGKOK COBRAS, 86-76
It was an intense game at the Thai Japanese Association Gym as the Bangkok Cobras and Chang Thailand Slammers played each other for the second time this season. The Cobras won their first encounter, but this time the Slammers were able to exact revenge.
The Cobras did not get a lot of contributions from both of their imports, Travis George and Gentry Lewis. George contributed 4 points and 1 rebound in 13 minutes before fouling out. Lewis’s production was also limited, just 11 points in 20 minutes of play before also fouling out.
Bangkok had a slow start. They were sloppy in the first quarter, turning the ball over 9 times and making just 3 field goals in the first 10 minutes. On the other side, Slammers’ two imports, Chaz Briggs and Demetrius Proby, were aggressive early and combined for 15 points.
This level of play continued up until the final quarter, where the Cobras just couldn’t get many stops. The Slammers had their biggest lead in this game with 1:40 left after John Paul Alcaraz hit a free throw to stretch the lead to 85-68.
Chaz Briggs led all scoring with 20 points and Demeterius Proby added 15 points in his debut. From the Cobras, Jai Reyes had 17 points and Marvin Cruz finished with 15 points. This is Slammers first win after hiring new coach Felton Sealy. They are still in transition after making a couple of changes in their squad, recently bringing in four new players Proby, Alcaraz, Earn Saguindel and Raymond Aguilar.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over AIRASIA PHILIPPINE PATRIOTS, 68-66
High intensity, hard fouls, and an exciting game. Those are the three things that can perfectly describe this rematch between the San Miguel Beermen and the AirAsia Philippine Patriots. A player from each team was thrown out of the game, but the Beermen kept their cool to hand Patriots their second loss of the season.
Leo Avenido led all scoring with 17 points followed by Dalron Johnson and Jarrid Famous, who scored 14 and 13 respectively. Nakiea Miller had 16 points for the Patriots and Anthony Johnson had 14 points before his ejection from the game.
The game started to get heated up midway through the third quarter when the Patriots’ Ardy Larong grabbed SMB’s Dalron Johnson’s and threw him to the floor, but Johnson did the right thing by walking away from Larong, who received an unsportmanlike foul. Then things came to a head at the 1:16 mark in the 3rd quarter when Anthony Johnson, who was about to go for a lay-up was hit by Aries Dimaunahan. Johnson reacted by getting Dimaunahan in a headlock, resulting in some of the other players coming in and getting involved, but the arena’s security was on hand to control the situation. This resulted in both Johnson and Dimaunahan receiving unsportsmanlike fouls and subsequent ejections from the game. Technical fouls were also called on both team’s benches.
The Patriots were up 54-49 going to the final quarter before Jarrid Famous made 5 straight points to tie the game at 54 with 8:30 left. The Patriots then made a couple of crucial turnovers in the last minutes that cost them the game.
