INDONESIA WARRIORS over AIRASIA PHILIPPINE PATRIOTS, 104-79
The Indonesia Warriors scored 35 points in the final quarter
on their way to beating the AirAsia Philippine Patriots.
Anthony Johnson finished the game with 32 points and 9
rebounds, while Aldrech Ramos added 14 points and 8 rebounds, but no other
Patriot managed to reach double digits while all five of the Warriors’ starters
recorded double-digits this afternoon.
The Warriors’ two new players, Evan Brock and Stanley
Pringle, put in impressive performances for their second game. Brock
led the Warriors with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Pringle finished with 22
points. Steven Thomas also had a double-double for the Warriors with 18 points
and 13 rebounds, while Allan Salangsang and Mario Wuysang added 13 points and
10 points respectively.
Al Vergara was back on the Patriots lineup after missing
last week’s game due to dengue fever, but he only managed 2
points and 5 assists in 20 minutes.
This is the first time this season the Patriots have suffered
consecutive losses. With this defeat, the Patriots moved to second position due
to a tiebreaker with the San Miguel Beermen. They will try to bounce back
when they host the Saigon Heat at the Ynares Sports Arena on
Wednesday April 25.
The Patriots also played today’s game with just one
international import. As per an official statement from the team, their import,
Chris Alexander, who debuted with the squad in their game against the San
Miguel Beermen last week, left them in the lurch as he left the Philippines
earlier this week without giving proper notice to the team. The AirAsia ABL
will be investigating this matter as according to the rules and regulations of
the league, the Patriots could be slapped with a fine as they have failed to
play a game with two international imports on their squad.
The Warriors are still holding on to third place in the
standings. Their next game will be at home in the Mahaka Square on
April 28 when they host Chang Thailand Slammers.

WESTPORTS MALAYSIA DRAGONS over SAIGON HEAT, 95-75
It was a crucial game for both the Dragons and the Heat as
both teams were still looking to clinch their playoff berths. In the end,
however, Brian Williams’s return to the squad marked the end of the Dragons’
losing streak as they beat the Heat.
Williams made his much anticipated return into to the Dragons
by finishing with 18 points and 16 rebounds in 26 minutes of play. Tiras Wade
was the Dragons’ top scorer, however, finishing with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Patrick Cabahug also had a fantastic afternoon, recording 17 points and was
5-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Saigon Heat’s Jonathan Jones, however, was the leading
scorer for the game, finishing with 31 points and 17 rebounds. Teammate Jahmar
Thorpe narrowly missed out on a double-double and recorded 20 points and 9
rebounds. John Smith finished 15 points despite missing all four of his three
point attempts.
The Heat continued their shooting struggles in this game,
managing less than 40% from the field. They will also need their bench players
to step up in their next few crucial outings leading into the playoffs as,
apart from Jones, Thorpe and Smith, the rest of the Heat squad only managed 9
points collectively.
The Dragons snapped their losing run and solidified their
current position at fourth on the standings.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over CHANG THAILAND SLAMMERS, 103-76
The Beermen’s defense and great teamwork proved to be
too much for the Chang Thailand Slammers to overcome as SMB finished the
game with 29 assists to grab a big win at the Thai Japanese
Association Gym. With this win, the Beermen are now at the top of the
standings with 14 wins and 4 losses.
Nick Fazekas led all scoring with 22 points and 7 rebounds
for the Beermen, who are now on a four-game winning streak. Chris
Banchero added 15 points and 7 assists in his second game. Leo Avenido finished
with 15 points and Duke Crews had 14.
Darongpan Apiromvilaichai had a breakout performance by
finishing with 18 points for the Slammers. Calvin Williams had his sixth
double-double of the season with 20 points and 17 rebounds, but he also
had 8 turnovers for the Thais, who are now holding on to a very slim
chance of going to the playoffs.
Chris Garnett added 14 points for the Slammers, who will be
facing a must-win game on Saturday when they face the hot streaking Indonesia
Warriors at Britama Arena.

JOBSTREET.COM SINGAPORE SLINGERS over BANGKOK COBRAS, 95-78
The JobStreet.com Singapore Slingers came back after a
three-week break to defeat the Bangkok Cobras, effectively strengthening their
bid for a playoffs position as they now find themselves at solo fifth, only 2
points behind the Westports Malaysia Dragons.
Kyle Jeffers topped the scoring with 25 points and 11
rebounds. Teammate Louis Graham also recorded a double-double with 21 points
and 10 rebounds.
Jai Reyes was the top point contributor for the Cobras with
21 points, followed by Gentry Lewis’s 15 and Marvin Cruz’s 14. It was not a
good game for Cobras import Travis George, who only finished with 9 points
although he managed to grab 10 rebounds.
The Slingers found themselves in trouble in the final period
and it did not help that Desmond Oh and Wong Wei Long both got their fifth
fouls of the game early in the quarter. Capitalizing on the situation, the
Cobras went on a stunning 13-point run with two minutes left on the clock to
close the gap to just 6 points at 76 to 82. Unfortunately, they ran into some
foul trouble at this point, enabling the Slingers to answer with their own
13-point run to close out the game.
Both teams will continue their bid for a playoffs position
on Wednesday when the Slingers get a tough away game as they travel to the
Philippines to face the currently top ranked San Miguel Beermen. The Cobras
will play hosts at the Chulalongkorn University to the Westports Malaysia
Dragons later on the same day.
