San Beda rebounded from its
opening day loss, Ateneo gained win #2, and the SWU Cobras continued to
flounder in day 2 of the 2013 Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at the San
Juan Arena. The Letran Squires and the FEU Lady Tamaraws also opened their

Roundup:
In the first game, big man Ivan
Villanueva was dominant with 21 points, 16 rebounds, and 2 blocks to lead the
Letran Squires over fellow Dominican-run school, UST, 70-67. Backstopping the
burly Villanueva was Gerdy Alacre’s 14 points and 17 rebounds. The Tiger Cubs,
who are parading an almost completely new roster this season were led by Ice
Dandan’s 16 markers.

The last match of the day saw
Ateneo get its second win at the expense of the San Sebastian Golden Stags, 75-70.
Kiefer Ravena was king today with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1
steal, while newcomer Chris Newsome impressed again, registering 16 points, 6
rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. On the other end of the floor, Bradwyn
Guinto lorded over the shaded lane with a wicked double-double – 15 points and
19 rebounds. The Stags outrebounded the Eagles, 53-43, but coach Bo Perasol’s
wards made up for it with better playmaking (20 assists against just 10 for
Baste) and defense (forcing 24 SSC turnovers).

In the meantime, the UAAP Board
upheld its insanity, approving the #NewUAAPRule despite the twisted mindset
behind it and the resulting public outcry. I will be writing about this when
the Board releases its implementing rules and guidelines, which will probably
spark even more furor. I wouldn’t mind having someone file a Temporary
Restraining Order (if applicable) against it, though.
