In the third game, the Lyceum Pirates finally scored a win after seven disappointments, beating the underachieving San Sebastian Golden Stags, 67-66. The Pirates led for most of the game till the Stags got in close in the payoff period, but Lyceum was able to hold on to the W for a 1-win, 7-loss card. Mark Francisco had a great game for the Pirates with 20 points on 9-of-16 FG shooting and 8 rebounds. Wilson Baltazar and John Azores backstopped him with 13 and 12 markers respectively. Jaymark Perez and Jon Rebollos each netted 14 points to lead Baste, but they also combined for 7 turnovers. Perez filled the stat-sheet with 18 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals, but he connected on just 5 of his 16 field goal attempts. The Stags’ record now reads 2-6.

The fourth game featured the Adamson Soaring Falcons clinching a quarterfinals berth at the expense of the Perpetual Help Altas, 79-78. It was a close game till the Altas built a double-digit lead late in the third period, but the Falcons mustered enough magic to scrape by on the slimmest of margins. Jericho Cruz had 27 points and 5 rebounds to lead Adamson, while Rodney Brondial and Ingrid Sewa paired up for 30 points and 18 boards. Ryan Monteclaro also did well, scoring 10 points on top of 6 assists and 2 steals. Nosa Omorogbe spearheaded Perpetual Help with 27 big points, though he shot only 10-0f-27 from the floor. He also did damage elsewhere, grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists. Junseric Baloria, Justine Allano, and Harold Arboleda all scored in double-figures in the Altas’s losing effort.

Tata Marata and Raul Soyud formed a dynamic inside-outside tandem for coach Ricky Dandan. Marata hit 4 triples and finished with 17 points, while Soyud shot 60% from the field to also net 17 markers on top of 6 rebounds. Reserve wingman Julius Wong also stepped up, scoring 16 points and hauling down 5 boards for the Diliman quintet. Big man Chris Ball laid a big fat egg in terms of scoring, but he did collar a game-high 14 rebounds. The point guard duo of Mikee Reyes and Henry Asilum produced a total of 13 assists, effectively orchestrating UP’s attack. JRU saw only two of its cagers finish with double-digit scoring – Paolo Pontejos scored 11 and Ervin Grospe ended up with 10. The Bombers and Maroons now carry identical 1-6 cards.

Paolo Pontejos goes up uncontested.
