- SMB continued to play with a slew of injuries. Marcio Lassiter, Chris Ross, and Paolo Hubalde all missed this game.
- The Bolts won for only the second time in seven games. It’s still mathematically possible for them to make the next round.
- Allen Durham had as good a debut as possible in the PBA, reeling in a triple-double line: 32 points, 24 rebounds, 10 assists, and 3 blocks. looks like Eric Wise won’t be missed.
- Denok Miranda had a breakout game for Barako Bull, scoring 20 points on 6/8 FG shooting, including 3 triples.
- GlobalPort didn’t play terribly, but it’s just that the Energy Cola couldn’t miss. Barako Bull converted 54% of its threes and 57% of its field goals overall.
- The big period here was the third quarter, where Rain or Shine outscored Ginebra, 30-18, behind the touch of Paul Lee. Lee scored 12 of the Painters’ last 13 points in that stanza to break the game open.
- Jeff Chan continued his great shooting form, too. The Bacolod native hit 3 triples on his way to 18 markers, helping ROS to its fourth win against three defeats.
- Seven Gin Kings scored in double-figures here, and they even outrebounded the Painters, 50-37, but what really bit their behinds were the turnovers. ROS forced 21 Ginebra errors and promptly converted these into 23 points-off-turnovers.

MERALCO over SAN MIGUEL, 90-74
Meralco import Mario West put together a dominant offensive display as he led the Bolts to an impressive 90-74 rout of the San Miguel Beermen in an out-of-town PLDT Home Telpad Governors’ Cup clash on Saturday at Xavier University Gym in Cagayan De Oro.
West scored 40 points – and outdueled the entire San Miguel team in the pivotal third quarter – alongside 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals as he led Meralco to a second win in their last three games.
With the victory, the Bolts climbed out of the cellar, improving to 2-5 for the tournament and boosting their hopes of getting one of the eight playoff spots up for grabs.
“It’s just survival instincts. It’s all we’re fighting for at this point,” Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio said. “We will not retreat, we will not surrender.”
“This, I think, averted an outright elimination for us. We just gotta keep on fighting.”
That was exemplified best in their import West, who was looking for his shot early in scoring 13 points in a first quarter that saw Meralco taking an eight-point lead, 26-18.
But San Miguel, behind their MVP candidate June Mar Fajardo, bogged down Meralco’s fast-paced attack in the second period as they came back to take the lead at the halftime break, 41-40.
But West was not to be deterred in the second half. He scored the first eight points of the third period – all of them in transition – as Meralco jumped out to fast start.
The Bolts offense churned out a total of 31 points in the quarter, with West scoring 17 points, three more than the Beermen as a team were able to muster.
Meralco’s lead ballooned to as high as 18 points, 71-53, after West slammed home an alley-oop lob from a teammate late in the third.
In the fourth, the resilient San Miguel squad tried to fight back, coming to as close as eight points, 77-69, after a string of points from Beermen import Reggie Williams and a free throw from the big man Fajardo.
But West returned to the floor after a rest on the bench and scored repeatedly on aggressive drives to the basket. West scored eight points and assisted on a Reynel Hugnantan three-point play as Meralco went on a 13-3 run late.
The lead was restored to 18 points, 90-79, after free throws from Rey Guevarra before Sol Mercado hit on the other end to secure the final margin.
Cliff Hodge scored 12 points and Hugnatan added 10 for Meralco.
Fajardo led the Beermen with 22 points but Williams finished with 17 markers in the loss.

BARAKO BULL over GLOBALPORT, 122-98
The Barako Bull Energy Cola rode a dazzling debut from new import Allen Durham and a brilliant offensive display from the rest of the locals to destroy GlobalPort, 122-98, and snap a five-game losing skid in the PBA Home Telpad Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.
Barako Bull import Allen Durham made his presence felt in his very first outing, notching a triple-double with 32 points, 24 rebounds and 10 assists to help lift Barako Bull back into a tie for the eighth and final playoff spot.
Durham also thoroughly outplayed his GlobalPort counterpart Dior Lowhorn, who scored nine points in the first quarter but was held scoreless for the entire second and third periods before finally breaking through late in the fourth.
Barako Bull improved to 2-5, tied with Meralco, while GlobalPort fell further from contention with a 1-6 record.
The Energy Cola, which averaged about 87 points per game, reached that mark with over two minutes remaining in the third quarter and hit the 100 points with 8:55 still to play.
With Durham holding the fort in the paint and the locals lighting it up from the outside, Barako Bull jumped out to a huge first quarter advantage, leading by as much as 22 points in the first 12 minutes.
The Energy Cola’s offense was humming in the opening period, totaling 38 points on a 68% shooting clip, while GlobalPort could only score 20.
Denok Miranda, who had 12 first quarter points, Keith Jensen and Willie Miller all had two three-pointer each in a red-hot shooting display.
It was GlobalPort’s turn to catch fire in the second quarter, though, as Terrence Romeo and Jay Washington led the Batang Pier on a 15-3 blast to come within just six points, 41-35, on a trey from guard RR Garcia.
But Durham took over from that point, scoring 10 in the last 6:22 of the quarter. He scored five straight late on a split from the line, a putback off his own miss and a big dunk, to restore Barako Bull’s lead to 14, 59-45, with 15 seconds left in the half.
It was all Barako in the second half, though.
Durham and JC Intal scored all of the points in an 11-1 run midway through the period that put the lead back up to 24 points, 80-56, and the Energy Cola would not look back after that.
They pushed the lead to as high as 33 points, 114-81, in the fourth period.
Durham got his triple-double at the 3:28 mark of the game, when he set up a Carlo Lastimosa basket for his 10th assist.

RAIN OR SHINE over GINEBRA, 117-108
The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters picked up a third consecutive victory after handily defeating Barangay Ginebra, 117-108, in the PLDT Home Telpad Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.
Import Arizona Reid topscored with 31 points while Paul Lee scored 24 points on 10-for-14 shooting and dominated some crucial stretches to lift the Elasto Painters to a fourth win in seven games this conference, tied for fifth place in the season-ending conference’s standings.
Rain or Shine caught fire in the second half to bust what was a close contest wide open.
Ginebra led by two points, 55-53, heading into the halftime break.
But with their running game finding its groove, Rain or Shine took firm control of the game in the third quarter.
Reid and Jeff Chan repeatedly got into the open court to fire off 12 unanswered points for Rain or Shine, part of a 16-2 run that gave them a 69-61 lead.
Ginebra, though, got back to within three points before Lee took the game over for Rain or Shine.
Lee scored in every which way, getting to the basket at will and knocking down difficult long range bombs, as he dominated a stretch that saw him making 12 of Rain or Shine’s last 13 points in the quarter.
That gave the Elasto Painters a 10-point advantage, 83-73, heading into the final period.
Rain or Shine kept their foot on the gas pedal in the fourth, pushing the lead to a high of 17 points, 103-86, with 5:47 left to play.
But Ginebra, true to their never-say-die mantra, charged right back with a 12-3 run bookended by a pair of three-pointers from point guard LA Tenorio.
But it was Lee again with an answer to Ginebra’s rally scoring off the glass to put Rain or Shine’s lead back to 10.
When Mason completed a three-point play and Slaughter added another free throw to allow Ginebra to get within six, 108-102, Lee answered with a three-pointer that again banked off the glass to douse Ginebra’s fire.
Reid would then score all of Rain or Shine’s last six points as they held off everything Ginebra could throw at them.
Chan finished with 18 points while Beau Belga added 12 for Rain or Shine, which is coming off a 51-point demolition of the Alaska Aces in their previous game. It was the most lopsided win in franchise history and the third largest margin on the PBA’s all-time list.
Mason led the way with 25 points while Greg Slaughter added 20 for Ginebra, which lost a second straight game to drop to 4-2.
