Game recap by Rey Joble/InterAKTV:

SAN MIG SUPER COFFEE over AIR 21, 113-109

Marqus Blakely lived up to his ‘Mr. Everything’ nickname as he led the San Mig Coffee Mixers past Air 21, 113-109, in an overtime thriller in the PLDT Home Telpad Governors’ Cup on Monday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Blakely finished with 36 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocks in a crucial win that catapulted the Mixers to solo second place in the standings with a 5-2 record.

Peter June Simon added 17 points while Marc Pingris added 14 for the Mixers.

But it was the San Mig Coffee import that stepped up the biggest, scoring nine of the team’s last 13 points in regulation and seven of the team’s eight in overtime while providing his usual presence on the defensive end.

The Mixers’ defense held the Express to only four point in the extra period while Blakely repeatedly got to the line to help San Mig Coffee grind out the win.

They looked like they would have the game all sewn up earlier in the fourth when they took a 13-point lead, 82-69.

But Air 21 battled back behind the three-point shooting of Joseph Yeo and rookie Eloy Poligrates to briefly take the lead, 102-99, with 1:31 to play.

But Blakely hit four free throws and Marc Pingris scored on a putback to give San Mig Coffee a 105-99 lead into dying seconds.

Yeo then shook off defender Peter June Simon with a stepback and a fake before knocking down a hang-time three-pointer to send the game to overtime.

Air 21 dropped into a three-way tie for fourth place with a 4-3 record.

Three players reached the 20-point mark for Air 21. Import Dominique Sutton had 22, Asi Taulava added 21 and Yeo scored 20 but it wasn’t enough for the Express on this night.
