Scenes of triumph and anguish are on full display in the
2014 FIBA U17 World Championships in Dubai, UAE.

SCORES & RECAPS:

Day Four:

USA over JAPAN, 122-38
- Team USA raced past Japan and barged into the quarterfinals with ease. Jayson Tatum’s 19 points paced six American players in double-figures, while Diamond Stone had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Rui Hachimura was the lone bright spot for Japan with 25 markers. The Americans face the last surviving Asian squad, China, in the next round, while Japan battles Italy in the classification wars.

CANADA over ANGOLA, 106-59
- Canada breezed past Angola as Koby McEwan dropped 23 points, leading five Canadians in double-digit scoring. That included Jamal Murray, who drilled in 6 of 9 FGs to finish with 15 points, while Kalif Young added 11 markers, 10 boards, and 2 rejections. Silvio De Sousa paced Angola with 14 points and the same number of rebounds. Canada faces Serbia in the quarterfinals, while Angola battles UAE next.

FRANCE over PHILIPPINES, 86-57
- The French had to scramble in the second half before cruising to a wide winning margin against a very spirited Philippine team. The 21 points and 12 rebounds from Amine Noua led Les Bleus, while Stephane Gombauld continued to impress with 14 points and 20 boards. The Nieto twins, Matt and Mike, each scored a dozen markers in the fourth loss of the Filipinos. France takes on Spain next, while Batang Gilas squares off with Argentina.

CHINA over ITALY, 79-67
- China was supposed to be the underdog against Italy, but the Asian powers were once again led by their terrific trio of Zhao Yanhao (32 points and five steals), Hu Jinqiu (19 points and 17 rebounds), and Fu Hao (12 and 6) to reach the final eight for the third straight edition. They achieved seventh-place finishes in 2010 and 2012. Andrea La Torre had 17 points to lead the Azzurri, but he did little else. The Chinese were +12 in rebounds and shot a scorching 50% from beyond the arc. China meets Team USA in the next phase, while the Italians duel with the Japanese.

PUERTO RICO over EGYPT, 86-79
- Puerto Rico advanced to the Round of 16 undefeated, but they were given all they could handle in an overtime win over Egypt, who lost all three games in the first round. Ivan Gandia scored 29 points to lead Puerto Rico while Arnaldo Toro had 13 points and 13 rebounds. Mohamed Abdelrahmen played his first game after leading Egypt to the title at the FIBA Africa U18 Championship on Sunday and scored a team-high 16 points, while Ahmed Khalaf had 10 rebounds and 8 blocks. Egypt actually led, 71-68, with 30 seconds left when Khalaf fouled Jorge Pachecho while shooting a three-point shot and the Puerto Rican guard made all three foul shots to  send the game into overtime. Leandro Allende made a big basket and two free-throws in the final minute of the extra session to decide the game. The Puerto Ricans battle the Boomers in the quarterfinals, while Egypt falls to the consolation round and plays Greece next.

SERBIA over UAE, 116-31
- As expected Serbia had no trouble against the host squad as Nikola Popovic collected 26 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 assists and 4 steals as the reserves got to play big minutes. In total, six Serbs scored in double-figures, including 21 points from Slobodan Jovanovic. The outcome was never in doubt here, and no Serb starter played more than 15 minutes. Mohammad Juma led UAE with 12 markers. Serbia is matched up against Canada in the final eight, while the home squad faces Angola.

AUSTRALIA over GREECE, 84-76
- Australia booked its spot in the quarterfinlas with a hard-fought  victory over Greece. Tommy Wilson and Dejan Vasiljevic combined to go 6-for-6 on free throws in the final 24 seconds, and Isaac Humphries collected 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Aussies to the victory and a match-up against Puerto Rico next. The Boomers survived a comeback by Greece, who trailed 71-58 with seven minutes left and trimmed the gap to 78-76 on a three-ball from Thanasis Ntouzidis with 43 seconds. Greece, who will play out the tournament hoping to finish ninth, was paced by 21 points from Antonis Koniaris.

SPAIN over ARGENTINA, 64-57
- Spain got 18 points from Santiago Yusta as the European champs gained a victory over Argentina, who got 18 points from Augustin Mas Delfino. The Spaniards trailed by one after the first ten minutes, but they won the final three periods en route to booking a ticket against France in the round of eight. Sergio Garcia was the only other Spanish player in double-figure scoring with 12 markers. Argentina struggled with its shooting, making just 33% of its FGs, and this was typified best by its star player, Maximo Fjellerup, who missed all 9 of his shots from the floor to finish with a disappointing 2 points in 30 minutes of play. Argentina hopes to bounce back against the Philippines in the consolation round.
