Talk N Text picked up its first win at the expense of sister team NLEX even as Rain or Shine beat Blackwater despite anemic shooting in the 2014-2015 PBA Philippine Cup.

The retooled Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters put in a dominating performance in a blowout victory over sister team NLEX its first win. The Texters unloaded 36 points in the third quarter to break the game open and bounce back after losing their opener to Ginebra last weekend. That huge third quarter storm made up for a subpar first half where TNT could only put up 39 markers. Gilas stalwart and offseason acquisition Jay Washington topped the scoring with 19 points while also grabbing 9 rebounds, handing out 2 assists, getting 2 steals, and blocking one shot. This is certainly the J-Wash TNT fans want to see, and here’s to hoping he can consistently put up these numbers. He was backstopped by Kelly Williams, who dropped 18 markers and 5 boards, while Jayson Castro and rookie Matt Rosser tallied 15 and 13 points respectively. On the other end, playmaker Jonas Villanueva led the way with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Asi Taulava registered a double-double with a dozen markers and 13 caroms. It was far from the ideal debut that NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez was hoping, especially after he just copped the NCAA Men’s five-peat for the San Beda Red Lions.

RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS over BLACKWATER ELITE, 82-75

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters escaped what was nearly turned to be a huge upset after falling behind by as many as 15 points before pulling through in the fourth quarter to defeat expansion club Blackwater. The Painters shot just 39% for the whole game, including missing ALL TWENTY FOUR tries from downtown. They trailed big, 38-53, in the middle of the third stanza before picking things up in the final frame, outscoring the Elite, 31-15. Sophomore center Raymond Almazan continued to showcase the improvement in his game, scoring 17 points on top of 10 rebounds to pace the Elasto-Painters. He was the only one in double-figure scoring for coach Yeng Guiao’s crew, however. Beau Belga and Jeff Chan were the next highest scorers with 9 markers each. Veteran Eddie Laure, meanwhile, led the way for the expansion Elite, registering a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Alex Nuyles, Bam-Bam Gamalinda, and Juami Tiongson each scored at least 12 markers.
