BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS over KIA SORENTO, 87-55
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel once again flashed the same fine form they showed in their opener as they put together a dominant performance against expansion team Kia in an out-of-town PBA Philippine Cup clash on Saturday at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena, Quezon Province. Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar each scored 16 points to lead Ginebra in the romp. Slaughter also had 11 rebounds, while Aguilar added a dozen boards on top of a perfect 5/5 shooting from the field. The Kings led by eight points, 19-11, early in the second period after Slaughter opened the quarter with a basket in the post, but Kia had its brightest moment of the game, with Rudy Lingganay and Reil Cervantes combining to score all of the team’s points while the Sorento defense forced multiple turnovers en route to a 9-0 blast that gave them the lead at 20-19. It was, however, all Ginebra after that. Jay-R Reyes and Chris Ellis also scored in double-figures for Ginebra with 12 and 10 markers respectively, while Reil Cervantes and Rudy Lingganay paced the losing side with 14 apiece.
Line of the Game: Japeth Aguilar – 16 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, 5/5 FG shooting.

Veteran Alex Cabagnot and 2014 top overall pick Stanley Pringle had productive games as the GlobalPort Batang Pier joined the PBA Philippine Cup win column after a double-digit victory over Barako Bull. Cabagnot led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while  Pringle made a big impact himself with 19 points and 8 boards. The other member of GlobalPort’s “CPR” trio, Terrence Romeo, however,  finished with just 9 markers after just 3-for-14 FG shooting. This started off as a tight contest before CPR conspired in a pivotal third quarter run to push GlbalPort’s lead to  dozen points. Coach Pido Jarencio’s wards were just in cruise control from then on. Barako Bull, for its part, was paced by 16 points from Denok Miranda, while Dave Marcelo and RR Garcia chipped in a dozen markers apiece.

Line of the Game: Alex Cabagnot – 21 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 9/17 FG shooting, 3 triples.

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS, 87-80
Reigning PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo had a monster performance, tallying 22 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 blocks to lead his San Miguel Beermen past the Grand Slam champion Purefoods Star Hotshots and remain undefeated in the PBA Philippine Cup. San Miguel, despite playing against a decimated Purefoods team missing James Yap, Marc Pingris, and Ian Sangalang, saw its 19-point advantage cut down to just four in the final period before escaping with their second win in as many games this season. Purefoods, meanwhile, started 0-2, just like last year. Yap missed the game with a calf strain, while Pingris is still recovering from a grueling stint with Gilas Pilipinas. Sangalang, meanwhile, will miss six to eight months after an ACL injury. Ronald Tubid and Arwind Santos scored 16 and 14 points respectively to backstop Fajardo, while Sol Mercado was solid with 12 markers on 6/8 FG shooting. Santos also had a key defensive stop in the fourth period that sealed the win for SMB. Young center Yousef Taha showed marked improvement with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots for Purefoods, while the backcourt tandem of PJ Simon and Mark Barroca tallied a combined 27 markers in the losing cause.

Line of the Game: June Mar Fajardo – 22 points, 16 rebounds, 6 blocks, 1 assists, 1 steal, 10/18 FG shooting.
