#PBA2015 Philippine Cup Roundup: November 7, 2014


Both Rain or Shine and Talk N Text notched their third wins at the expense of cellar-dwelling teams in action from the 2014-2015 PBA Philippine Cup last night.

RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS over BARAKO BULL ENERGY, 99-71
Sporting new tangerine uniforms, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters leaned on steadfast defensive effort in the first period as they cruised past Barako Bull, 99-71, for their third win in five games. Gilas sniper Jeff Chan led all scorers with 23 points, while point guard TY Tang added 12. Jervy Cruz had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds even as two other Elasto Painters, Jeric Teng and JR Quinahan, finished with 10 points apiece. Rain or Shine shackled Barako Bull, allowing just seven points on nine percent shooting over the first 12 minutes of the game. They led 25-7 after the first quarter and never relinquished the lead after that. ROS clobbered Barako on the glass, 56-47, while also outshooting them from downtown (41% to 23%) and handing out more assists, 20-12. JC Intal and Willie Wilson each dropped a dozen markers to pace the Energy, who sank to 0-4 in the standings. Erstwhile leading scorer Denok Miranda scored 10 points but he shot just 4/20 from the field and turned the ball 5 times.

TALK N TEXT TOPANG TEXTERS over KIA SORENTO, 85-62

The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters stamped their class on struggling expansion club Kia in the second half to win, 85-62, and move up to 3-2 in the team standings. The first two periods were close, with Talk ‘N Text unable to push its lead to higher than five points, but the Tropang Texters outscored the Sorento, 20-9, in the third period and 26-18 in the fourth as they pulled away bigtime in the second half. Kelly Williams scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but it was a balanced effort for Talk ‘N Text. Larry Fonacier scored 12 points, Jayson Castro added 11 markers, and Elmer Espiritu had 10 in the victory. Forward Harvey Carey grabbed 16 rebounds, five on the offensive end, even though he went scoreless and missed all five of his shots. Rookie Matt Ganuelas-Rosser had just six points, but grabbed 11 boards and dished out a team-high 4 assists. The Sorento floundered offensively in this one, shooting just 19% from downtown and 29% overall. Karl Dehesa led them with 14 points, while substitute playmaker Rudy Lingganay added 11 as Kia lost its fourth game after winning in its debut.
