The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters were able to give streaking Barako Bull its first blemish on an erstwhile unbeaten PBA Commissioner’s Cup record as they triumphed, 80-75, on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Jayson Castro scored 16 points, including two big three-pointers in the fourth quarter, to lead a multitude of double-digit scorers for the balanced Tropang Texters, who climbed into a tie with their victims at 3-1.
Matt Ganuelas-Rosser finished with 15, while veteran pick-up Willie Miller had 13 and Ranidel De Ocampo had 11, both off the bench. Larry Fonacier added 10 points.
TNT Import Richard Howell posted 11 points, 18 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The game was tied with about six minutes remaining before Castro and Fonacier knocked down a couple of threes that helped the team stay in front in the endgame. The Tropang Texters hit 11 three-pointers in the contest while the Energy connected on just three.
Solomon Alabi had 21 points, 24 rebounds and five blocks for Barako Bull while Carlo Lastimosa added 16 in the loss.

BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS over KIA CARNIVAL, 100-92

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings let expansion team Kia hang around for three quarters before stamping its class in the fourth to get past the Carnival, 100-92, and clinch a second straight win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Michael Dunigan had 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Kings, which evened out its record at 2-2 after losing its first two to start the conference.
Greg Slaughter also had a productive game inside with 14 points and 8 boards, while Ginebra’s backcourt troika of LA Tenorio, Joseph Yeo, and Mark Caguioa all finished with 11 to help the Kings’ cause.
The game was tied at 70-all at the end of the third quarter, but the Ginebra offense fired off 30 big points in the fourth to put the game away.
Ginebra was able to weather a huge performance from Kia’s 7-foot-3 import PJ Ramos, who had 37 points and 22 rebounds, although he turned the ball over eight times.
