The Blackwater Elite picked up only their second ever win in franchise history after outlasting Kia, 115-104, in a battle of the PBA’s newest franchises on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan.
With the win, Blackwater improved to 2-6 in the Commissioner’s Cup while Kia dropped to 3-5.
Brian Heruela led the way with a career-high 27 points, import Marcus Douthit had an all-around line of 24 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 blocks, while Sunday Salvacion chipped in with 22 off the bench as the Elite gained some measure of revenge against the Carnival.
Kia emerged victorious in their Philippine Cup duel, but Blackwater made sure the result would be different this time around.
Despite allowing Kia’s 7-foot-3 import PJ Ramos a career-high 49 points in this one, Blackwater led by as many as 18 points in the game before finally putting the Carnival away in the fourth.
