MALAYSIA over INDONESIA, 89-74

- Things were pretty close in the first half of this game before coach Dany Yong’s wards turned up the pressure in the third quarter to blow the game open. Malaysia outworked Indonesia on the glass, 58-43, and played great defense (13 steals for the Malaysians) en route to their second victory in three tries. Kalven Lim and Le Hui Lee each scored 13 points to lead Malaysia, while Zhong Shin Thea put up a dozen markers and 11 rebounds. The losing side was paced by the combined 35 points of Juan Maulana and Andre Risqiano. Indonesia needs to win over Thailand today to stay alive for a berth in the 2015 FIBA Asia U16 tournament.

PHILIPPINES over THAILAND, 105-48

- The Thais stubbornly stayed with the home team in the first quarter, trailing by just 6 points, but the Pinoys flipped the switch in the second period to erect a double-digit lead they would only build upon. The Philippines outrebounded Thailand, 63-38, and used their vaunted pressure defense to force 49 Thai errors, which resulted in 43 points off turnovers for coach Mike Oliver’s crew. Seven Batang Gilas boys scored in double-figures here, led by SJ Belangel’s 16 points. 6’5 center Will Gozum added 13 markers and 8 boards, while Rhayyan Amsali dropped a dozen points in as many minutes off the bench. Nobody scored in double-digits for Thailand, with Pattarapol Saengsri top-scoring with 8 points. Thailand needs to beat Indonesia later if it wants to stay alive for a spot in the 2015 FIBA Asia U16 tourney.
