NLEX ROAD WARRIORS over MERALCO BOLTS,

The NLEX Road Warriors missed the services of Asian import Michel Madanly but were not lacking firepower as the locals played big in a 91-84 victory over sister team Meralco on Wednesday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Kwame Alexander had 29 points and 17 rebounds but only needed to score four points in the fourth quarter as he got plenty of support from his local teammates.
Veteran Asi Taulava was in vintage form, posting a double-double of 20 points and 10 boards.
In the absence of Madanly, who is averaging 17 points per game, it was KG Canaleta and Mac Cardona stepping up on the wings. Canaleta scored 13 points, including three triples, while Cardona added nine points – all of them in the fourth quarter.
Meralco had big games from their imports. Andre Emmett exploded for 44 points, while Asian import Seiya Ando debuted with 18, but no Meralco local scored more than six points.
The Road Warriors improved to 1-2, tying the Bolts in the standings.

BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS over KIA CARNIVAL, 105-98

Barangay Ginebra import Orlando Johnson showed little sign of slowing down, scoring 47 big points as he led the Kings past a plucky Kia side, 105-98, to notch its first victory in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Johnson, who scored 50 and 46 in his first two games in the PBA, was right back at it, shooting 15-for-25 (60%) from the field and 15-for-23 (65%) from the free throw line for Ginebra, which improved to 1-2 for the conference.
He also had 17 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks in another strong effort.
He needed some help from his teammates in the clutch, though, and got exactly that from veterans Mark Caguioa and Josh Urbiztondo.
With the team trailing, 92-88, in the fourth quarter, Johnson and Caguioa combined to score all of the points in an 8-0 run that made it, 96-92, for the Kings. Caguioa twice challenged Kia’s defensive ace of an import, Hamady N’Diaye, beating him on a layup and a teardrop.
Kia, though, tied the game at 97-all and they needed a big shot from Urbiztondo, who ran down the floor for a quick two points for a 99-97 lead with 45.7 seconds remaining.
Johnson and Urbiztondo then went 4-for-4 from the free throw line as they took a six-point lead with 16 seconds remaining. After a split from N’Diaye, Rodney Brondial got them potentially crucial quotient points with a layup at the buzzer.
Caguioa finished with 16 points – 10 of those in the fourth – while Urbiztondo added 11. LA Tenorio scored 10 points to help the cause.
Kia was led by LA Revilla, who scored 16 of his team-high 20 points in the fourth, and N’Diaye, who tallied 19 points, 25 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
