The Barako Bull Energy extended their surprising run on top of the standings after turning back GlobalPort Batang Pier, 123-114, in PBA Governors’ Cup action Sunday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Import Liam McMorrow posted an impressive performance of 41 points and 27 rebounds while also anchoring Barako Bull on both ends of the floor. Joseph Yeo added 19 points and 10 assists to lead the Energy, which improved to 6-1 for the solo No.1 spot.
The loss pushed GlobalPort to the .500 mark, 4-4, as they have now lost four of their last five games after going off to a 3-0 start to the conference.
Young hotshot Terrence Romeo finished with 30 markers for GlobalPort, which also got 32 points and 22 boards from import Jarrid Famous.

PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS over BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS, 89-82

The Star Hotshots got off to a great start before foiling the comeback hopes of a gutsy Barangay Ginebra squad as they grabbed an 89-82 victory in a Manila Clasico clash on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The Hotshots led by as many as 19 in the first half and, though they lost in it in the third quarter, made a big fourth quarter run to push ahead again before holding off a late Ginebra charge in the endgame.
Joe Devance led the way with 26 points, while import Marqus Blakely had 19 points and 19 rebounds for the Hotshots, who improved to 3-4 to leapfrog their victims in the standings.
The Kings fell to 3-5 with the defeat.
Mark Barroca added 12 points off the bench, while Alex Mallari scored 9, including a layup in the final minute that snapped an 8-0 Ginebra run.
Import Orlando Johnson led Ginebra with 35 points and 11 rebounds. Japeth Aguilar, meanwhile, had another strong showing with 18 markers and 9 boards in the loss. Korean import Kim Ji-Wan dropped only 8 points on 2/10 FG shooting off the pine for the Kings.
