#PBA2015 Govs Cup Roundup: July 1, 2015

The 2015 PBA Govs’ Cup semis opened hostilities tonight with a doozy. The Alaska Aces stormed back from as many as 18 points down to pull the rug from under the Purefoods Star Hotshots to erect a 1-0 series lead.

JV Casio and the Aces succeeded in drawing first blood in this pivotal semis duel.

The Alaska Aces were down but never out as they came back from deficits as high as 18 points to beat the Star Hotshots, 97-91, and grab a 1-0 lead in their PBA Governors’ Cup semifinal series on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Alaska wiped out Star’s double-digit lead with a huge 34-19 third quarter and played steady in the fourth quarter to escape with a hard-fought victory.

Import Romeo Travis finished with 28 points on 10-for-13 shooting alongside 10 rebounds. JVee Casio stepped up for the Aces as well, scoring 18 points.

Chris Banchero chipped in with 10 and Calvin Abueva added 8 points and 7 boards for the No. 1 team.

Star’s James Yap started hot, hitting his first four shots, but he hit a cold spell and finished with a 5/10 clip, which was good for 13 points. Marqus Blakely paced the Hotshots with 23 points and 9 rebounds, while PJ Simon tallied 16 points off the bench. Mark Barroca had a splendid game, putting up 15 markers and 10 boards in the losing cause.
