SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS, 101-95

The San Miguel Beermen needed to buck a slow start but got the job one in the end as they defeated Rain or Shine, 101-95, to take a 1-0 lead in the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals on Thursday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The No. 2-seeded Beermen came back from a 24-point first-half deficit to nail a tough Game One victory.
Import Arizona Reid and Marcio Lassiter led an impressive showing from San Miguel’s starting five, with both players pacing the team with 22 points apiece. Reid also had 13 rebounds and 8 assists, while Lassiter grabbed 7 boards and knocked down 4 triples.
The Beermen’s starters combined to score 92 of the team’s 101 points.
PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo added 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting as well as 10 rebounds. Alex Cabagnot added 15 points and 8 assists, while Arwind Santos had 13 points and a dozen boards.
Rain or Shine jumped out to a 43-19 lead in the second quarter but San Miguel changed the complexion of the game with a big third quarter.
The game remained close in the fourth, with Rain or Shine forcing a 95-all tie on a basket from Wendell McKines with 4:41 remaining.
But the Beermen would not allow any more baskets after that point while Lassiter and Reid made some big shots to seal the win in the end.
On the other end, ROS import Wendell McKines led the way with 33 points and 16 rebounds for the losing team. Paul Lee dropped 19 markers off the bench, while big guya Beau Belga and Raymond Almazan chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively.
