ALASKA ACES over PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS, 95-74

The top-seeded Alaska Aces moved one step closer to PBA Governors’ Cup finals after routing the Star Hotshots, 95-74, to improve to 2-0 in their best-of-five semis series on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Import Romeo Travis led the way with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Calvin Abueva chipped in 11 markers in the win.
Noy Baclao and Ping Exciminiano added 10 points apiece, while four other players added at least eight.
Star was able to remain close, trailing by just four points, 59-55, with 3:38 remaining in the third quarter.
But Alaska closed out the period strong, finishing on a 12-3 run with reserves Baclao, Chris Banchero and Dondon Hontiveros combining to score all of the team’s points in the run.
That gave the Aces a 71-58 lead at the end of the third.
In the fourth, Alaska held Star scoreless for a stretch of about six minutes, rattling off 13 consecutive points push their lead to 21 big points, 93-72, with 57 seconds remaining.
Not surprisingly, Marqus Blakely paced the Hotshots with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks, while PJ Simon came off the bench to drop 17 markers.
