BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS over ALASKA ACES, 93-92
Box scores.
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel finally barged into the winning column after escaping with a 93-92 win over the Alaska Aces in the SMART BRO PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday (early Sunday morning Philippine time) at Al Wasl Sports Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Gin Kings center Greg Slaughter came up with a monstrous performance of 27 points and 19 boards while sinking 15 of his 17 free throws, two of which gave them the lead for good and turned back a furious Alaska comeback.
Ginebra held a 19-point advantage at one point, but Alaska, despite playing the second of a back-to-back didn’t easily back down and rallied from that huge deficit before falling short in the end.
Alaska had one last chance to snatch the win, but shots by Manuel and JVee Casio failed to find the mark.
It was the first loss of Alaska, which was led by Calvin Abueva’s 23 points and 10 boards, after going unbeaten in its first three games.
The win also marked the first triumph of multi-titled coach Tim Cone with Ginebra, which lost two straight to start the season.
Lines of the Game:
Greg Slaughter (GIN) - 27pts, 19rebs, 4asts, 6/9 FGs, 15/17 FTs.
Calvin Abueva (ALA) - 23pts, 10rebs, 2blks, 1stl, 9/15 FGs.
