#PBA2016 Commish Cup Roundup: February 26, 2016

The 2016 PBA Commissioner’s Cup just got a helluva lot more interesting last night after the Mahindra Enforcers upended the NLEX Road Warriors and the San Miguel Beermen thrashed the GlobalPort Batang Pier.

MAHINDRA ENFORCERS over NLEX ROAD WARRIORS, 106-99

The Mahindra Enforcers picked up a second consecutive win in the 2016 Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup after putting NLEX away with a furious fourth quarter finish, 106-99, on Friday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.


Mahindria went on a 15-4 run from the last five-minute mark to turn a three-point deficit into a 102-94 advantage heading into the last 30 seconds of the game.

They rattled off six unanswered points courtesy of a pair of fall-away jumpers from KG Canaleta sandwiching a bucket from import Augustus Gilchrist.

NLEX struggling to come away with anything more than splits from the free throw line in their succeeding possessions, LA Revilla snuck into the paint for a pair of finishes inside. Mike Digregorio then capped the run with two free throws to make it an eight-point game with half a minute left to play.

Gilchrist finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead Mahindra, which is now 3-1.






Canaleta backed him up with 21 points, including three three-pointers, while Chito Jaime logged a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Aldrech Ramos likewise had a double-doube with 12 points and 10 boards.

Digregorio added 13 markerS, while Revilla had 10 points and six assists.

NLEX import Al Thornton led the Road Warriors with 29 points. Sean Anthony had 18 points and nine boards while Asi Taulava had 10 points and 12 boards.

NLEX dropped to 2-2.

Import Tyler Wilkerson erupted for 52 points, while Marcio Lassiter fired 28 points as they ignited the San Miguel Beermen to a 120-109 win over the GlobalPort Batang Pier in OPPO PBA Commissioner’s Cup Friday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.






The 80-point combined production of Wilkerson and Lassiter was more than enough for San Miguel (1-1), which notched its first win of the tournament. Lassiter ended the game with eight-of-14 triples while Wilkerson had seven-of-11.

Things doomed for GlobalPort early in the final frame when Pringle, who finished with 19 points, injured his ankle during a drive attempt. He quickly asked to be subbed out and never returned.

San Miguel pulled away from then and never looked back to come away with the win.

Import Calvin Warner posted 27 points and 17 boards while Romeo had 22 markers in the losing effort for GlobalPort (2-1) which saw the end of its two-game win streak.
