The NBA: Awards Watch: Final Edition

The playoffs are coming this weekend and the 2012-2013 regular season is coming to an end. For 16 teams, their season will continue for at least 4 more games. For teams, reaching the playoffs is their reward. For the players, it's individual awards that recognize their achievements and accomplishments for 82 games.

It's time to examine for the fourth and final time how the players have performed for the different individual awards for the 2012-2013 season. The Top 5 players in each individual award category are listed including their ranks from the previous editions. Bonus: the Coach of the Year is listed for the last edition.

Here's the link for the past editions:  1st Edition  2nd Edition 3rd Edition

Statistics used are from games until April 17, 2013.
LeBron James has a lot of things to smile about in the regular season. His 4th MVP is a sure thing and the Miami Heat finished with the best record in the NBA and had a 27-game winning streak
(Image from: totalprosports.com)
MVP

1. LeBron James, Miami Heat | Last Rank: 1st
The Heat had a 27-game winning streak which was 2nd best in all of professional sports. The Heat finished with the best record in the NBA with 11 games ahead of anyone in the East. LBJ had a 31.69 PER (2nd best in career) while shooting a career-high 56.5% from the floor, averaging career-high in rebounds (8.0) with 36 double-doubles which placed him 9th in the league and the only Small Forward among the top 15. He also had 4 triple-doubles and around half a dozen close "almost" triple-doubles.

2. Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder | Last Rank: 2nd
Kevin Durant did not win his 4th straight scoring title but finishing 2nd in the MVP race and 2nd in scoring aint bad at all. He also finished second to James in PER and has 3 triple-doubles which is a career-high. KD will finish the season shooting 50+ from the field (career-high) , 90+ from free throws (career-high) and 41+ from threes. Durant did all of these having less shot attempts than Russell Westbrook.

3. Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks  | Last Rank: Not Ranked
Melo led the Knicks to a 13-game win streak which was their best streak since 1993-94. He also led the Knicks to a 50-win season and the Atlantic Division title in more than a decade. Melo even managed to overtake Durant in the scoring title to win his first scoring crown. Carmelo had a blistering hot April: 37 points and 10 boards on 54% shooting.

4. Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers | Last Rank: 3rd
Chris Paul guided the Clippers to their first Pacific division title in franchise history. Paul also led the Clips to their first 50+ win season in over 40 years. His stats arent too shabby either. CP3 is 3rd in PER and second in assists per game at 9.6, a couple which go to exciting alley-oops to Blake. Defensively, he is a pest on passing lanes with his league-leading 2.43 steals a night.

5a. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers | Last Rank: 5th
The Lakers could make or will be in the playoffs because of Kobe. Sadly, he wont be able to play because of his injury but he did everything he can to get the Lakers to the postseason. In his last 10 games, Kobe averaged 43 minutes and 29 points to go with 6 boards and 8 assists. He was basically doing it all except play good defense which his body cant handle at this stage of his career.

5b. Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs | Last Rank: Not Ranked
An even older Tim Duncan (36) has kept the Spurs close to the top of the West. His 18 points and 10 rebounds are his best numbers in the last 4 years. His 2.7 blocks ranks as his 2nd highest for his career. Duncan's efficiency has put him at #6 in PER and as a bonus, TD is shooting over 80% at the foul line.

Out of the Rankings: Tony Parker - 4th

Damian Lillard is an easy choice for ROY.
(Image from: Grantland.com)
ROY

1. Damian Lillard, Portland Trailblazers | Last Rank: 1st
Lillard has been the best rookie for the whole year and should be the unanimous choice for ROY. He had an impressive 38 points vs Kobe and the Lakers plus another 37 against the Knicks. His best stats would be playing all of their games and averaging almost 39 minutes in the process. Most of the other lottery picks have suffered through a myriad of injuries and less minutes.

2. Anthony Davis, New Orleans Hornets Last Rank: 4th
Anthony Davis found his rhythm in the last 2 months of the season where he compiled 9 double-doubles with his 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. The only thing that held him back was his injuries and slow start to the season. Davis ended up playing only 64 games but luckily, nothing serious with any of his minor/nagging injuries.

3. Harrison Barnes, Golden State Warriors | Last Rank: Not Ranked
Another rookie who played 80 games is Barnes. His numbers arent too great but he was a solid contributor for the Warriors who are going to the playoffs. Curry and Klay have overshadowed his production and minutes were not guaranteed for him. A taste of the postseason could improve his confidence and prepare him better for next season.

4. Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards Last Rank: 2nd
Beal played only 56 games because of injuries. He was decent from three-point land with a 39% clip but overall, his shooting was horrible at 41%. That was to be expected for an undersized shooting guard who was also a rookie. His missed games for the latter part of the season which was unfortunate since John Wall and Beal were unable to create a lot of chemistry on the court.

5. Dion Waiters, Cleveland Cavaliers Last Rank: 3rd
Another injured rookie who played about 60 games. Waiters is similar to Beal in almost every way including his team situation. Waiters is playing with a great point guard in Kyrie Irving but their on-court chemistry has been limited due to injuries to both players. While Beal appears to be better on offense, Waiters is a more polished defender.

Out of the Rankings: Kyle Singler - 5th

JR Smith exploded in the last 2 months of the season, all coming from the bench.
(Image from: deadspin.com)
Sixth Man

1. JR Smith, New York Knicks Last Rank: 4th
JR leads all bench players in scoring at 18.1 which also puts him #18 in the NBA. He had a 3-game burst of scoring at least 32 points during the 13-game win streak of the Knicks. His best improvement: a career-high of 5.3 rebounds per game.

2. Jamal Crawford, LA Clippers Last Rank: 1st
Crawford is 2nd in bench scoring but still #1 when it comes to amazing crossovers and playground style, shake 'n bake moves. Jamal had a hot start to the season when he led the Clippers in scoring but he cooled off by a little bit.

3. Kevin Martin, OKC Thunder Last Rank: 3rd
The Thunder still finished with the best record in the West even with Martin as their 6th man. He does not possess the same play-making skills of Harden but Martin's role as a shooter who does not need the ball often has allowed Durant and Westbrook to take more control.

4. Jarrett Jack, Golden State Warriors Last Rank: 2nd
Jarrett Jack has been a big factor to why the Warriors are back in the playoffs. Jack's leadership and clutch shooting have resulted in big wins for them. He has been great as a backup PG, averaging almost 6 assists a game.

5. Ryan Anderson, New Orleans Hornets Last Rank: 5th
Anderson is 2nd in threes made in the NBA and shooting it at 38%. He averaged 16 points and 6 rebounds on a bad Hornets team. He can start on any team as a stretch 4.

Nikola Vucevic has made Orlando fans forget Dwight Howard
(Image from: Bleacher Report)
Most Improved Player

1. Nikola Vucevic, Orlando Magic Last Rank: 1st
Vucevic is 3rd in double-doubles with 45 and 2nd in rebounding (Howard is a slot above him in both categories). Nic is averaging 13 points and 12 boards which are easily career-highs. Vucevic has 4 games of at least 20 and 20.

2. Grievis Vasquez, New Orleans Hornets Last Rank: 3rd
Vasquez is 3rd in the NBA in assists with 9 a game and has 25 double-doubles and 1 triple-double. It's a career year for him in points, assists, rebounds and threes. Not a lot of people expected him to be a solid starter.

3. Omer Asik, Houston Rockets Last Rank: 4th
Like Vucevic, the increase in minutes and opportunities have allowed Asik to have a great season. He has 33 double-doubles and is 3rd in rebounding. He will anchor the middle for the Rockets in the playoffs.

4. Paul George, Indiana Pacers Last Rank: 2nd
George is now the leader and best player of the Pacers especially with Granger out for the year. His offensive numbers are better than last year especially his three-point shooting where he has made clutch shots all-season long.

5. Jrue Holiday, Philadelphia 76ers Last Rank: 5th
Holiday had a good season individually which was punctuated by an All-Star berth but his team struggled with injuries and will miss the playoffs. Jrue is a better playmaker and passer this year and he has been decent during clutch situations.

Is Marc Gasol the better Gasol brother right now? On defense, YES!
(Image from: NBA.com)
DPOY

1. Marc Gasol, Memphis Grizzlies Last Rank: 5th
Marc Gasol has anchored the stingiest and grittiest defense in the NBA. His rebounds and blocks dont stand out but his positioning, box outs and defensive presence have allowed the Grizzlies to be the best defensive unit in the league.

2. Joakim Noah, Chicago Bulls Last Rank: 1st
If Noah played more games, he would probably win the DPOY. Noah has only played 65 games but the Bulls still ended top 3 in points allowed. Joakim was averaging 11 rebounds and 2 blocks to go along with his topnotch hustle plays.

3. LeBron James, Miami Heat Last Rank: 2nd
LBJ can guard at least 4 positions effectively and on some instances, he can defend some centers. He is very good against passing lanes and the idea of being a victim to his chase down blocks have led to botched layups.

4. Larry Sanders, Milwaukee Bucks Last Rank: 4th
Sanders came out of nowhere to partially lead the league in blocks for more than half the season. He will finish in second place to Ibaka but Sanders ranks first in block ratio and blocks per minute.

5. Tyson Chandler, New York Knicks Last Rank: 3rd
The Knicks are 7th in team defense mainly due to Chandler's presence. He gets almost 11 boards a game and a block. Chandler rotates well on pick and rolls and helps on defense often which changes an opponent's shot.

Coach of the Year

1. Erik Spoelstra, Miami Heat
Spo led the Heat to the best record in the NBA plus guided the defending champs to a 27-game win streak. Spo managed to motivate the Heat into accepting their roles and sacrificing minutes.

2. Mike Woodson, New York Knicks
Woody guided the Knicks to their first division title and 50+ wins in over a decade. He has influenced Melo and JR Smith into becoming better team players

3. George Karl, Denver Nuggets
Karl managed to integrate Iggy into their style of play which resulted in a 50+ win season, a 15-game win streak and the best home record in the NBA.

4. Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs are still among the elite even with all their injuries. Pop has been able to get maxmium efficiency from Duncan while Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard have grown into better players.

5. Lionel Hollins, Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies are the best defensive team and they played better after trading their top scorer (Rudy Gay). Mike Conley and Marc Gasol have improved under his tutelage.

The NBA: Awards Watch: 2nd Edition

The season has passed the halfway mark with teams playing over 41 games already and the All-Star break looming in mid-February. It's time to examine how the players have positioned themselves for the different individual awards for the 2012-2013 season.

Here's the link for the 1st Edition

It's time to check the Top 5 players in each individual award category who continues to play well and amaze us.

MVP
Has LBJ overtaken KD for MVP?

1. Kevin Durant, OKC Thunder | Last Rank: 1st
He leads the league in scoring after leaping over Kobe and Melo. He is second to James in PER. Durant is currently shooting 51+ from the field, 91+ from free throws and 41+ from threes. His rebounds and assists are also a career-high

2. LeBron James, Miami Heat | Last Rank: 2nd
LBJ is still the best player and best all-around performer in the NBA but the Heat have not been great in the East. LBJ leads the league in PER and he is shooting a career-high 55% and career-high in boards. He also has 21 double-doubles which puts him 9th in the NBA.

3. Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers | Last Rank: Not Ranked
The Clippers are in the top 3 in the West and they are leading the Pacific division by 4.5 games. Paul was instrumental in guiding the Clippers to 17 straight wins and the Clippers are 1-3 in the recent 4 games that Paul has missed. CP3 is 3rd in PER and averages 17 and 9.6 assists.

4. Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks | Last Rank: 4th
The Knicks are still within striking range of the Heat for the top record in the East due to Melo's scoring and dedicated focus on defense and ball-sharing. He is 2nd in scoring and his shooting numbers from deep at 42% is a career-high. Surprisingly, Melo is 5th in PER.

5. Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs | Last Rank: Not Ranked
Parker has kept the Spurs at the top of the NBA standings. He is the leader of this group having played 45 of their 47 games while Duncan and Manu have missed some games including other rotational players. Parker is averaging 20 and 7.5 while shooting 53% from the floor to lead all guards.

Out of the Rankings: Tim Duncan - 3rd, Zach Randolph - 5th

ROY
Andre Drummond has emerged as the top rookie big man for now.
(Image from: Bleacher Report)

1. Damian Lillard, Portland Trailblazers | Last Rank: 1st
Lillard still leads all rookies in minutes, points, threes made and assists. He also has a couple of game-winning shots and clutch baskets for the Blazers who are fighting for the 8th spot in the West.

2. Andre Drummond, Detroit Pistons Last Rank: Not Ranked
Drummond leads all rookies in double-doubles at 8 and he is #11 in PER among all NBA players. He only plays 20 minutes but consistently gets almost 8 points and 8 boards and 1.6 blocks per game.

3. Anthony Davis, New Orleans Hornets Last Rank: Not Ranked
Davis is number 2 in double-doubles and PER among rookies after Drummond. His injuries have slowed down his progression and performance but when healthy, among the best big men.

4. Dion Waiters, Cleveland Cavaliers Last Rank: 2nd
Waiters and Irving are similar to the tandem of Wall and Beal in Washington. The Cavs have a slightly better version since Irving is better than Wall and Waiters has a more balanced perimeter game than Beal for now.

5. Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards Last Rank: 5th
Now that John Wall is back, Beal was projected to score more with Wall setting him up. That has not happened often in the past 10 games but they are the backcourt of the future for the Wizards.

Out of the Rankings: Harrison Barnes - 3rd, MKG - 4th

Sixth Man
Kevin Martin has made sure that the Thunder dont miss Harden
(Image from: Bettor.com)

1. Jamal Crawford, LA Clippers Last Rank: 1st
Crawford is tied for 2nd in scoring for the Clippers and leads all bench players in points per game. He also leads the NBA in four-point plays and crossover highlights.

2. JR Smith, New York Knicks Last Rank: 5th
Smith is the 2nd best scorer of the Knicks and he's had at least a couple of buzzer-beaters this season. His shot selection needs to improve if he wants to overtake Jamal.

3. Kevin Martin, OKC Thunder Last Rank: 2nd
Martin has replaced Harden with regards to points and efficiency but the playmaking skills and court decisions are not simply the same

4. Carl Landry, Golden State Warriors Last Rank: 3rd
Landry is getting 12 and 7 with 53% shooting for the Warriors in 25 minutes of action. His numbers could go down once Bogut gets regular rotation minutes.

5. Jarrett Jack, Golden State Warriors Last Rank: Not Ranked
Jack and Landry are interchangeable here. Both have thrived coming from the bench and they have propelled the Warriors into playoff contention.

Out of the Rankings - Ray Allen - 5th

Most Improved Player
Nikola Vucevic of the Magic has done a decent job of replacing Dwight
(Image from: baynews9.com)

1. Nikola Vucevic, Orlando Magic Last Rank: Not Ranked
Vucevic is 7th in rebounding and tied for 4th in double-doubles. He had a career-high and franchise-record of 29 boards that topped Howard's previous record.

2. Omer Asik, Houston Rockets Last Rank: 2nd
Asik is still averaging a double-double (10 & 11) and he has 19 double-doubles for the year and is 6th in rebounding.

3. Grievis Vasquez, New Orleans Hornets Last Rank: Not Ranked
Vasquez has started all 46 games for the Hornets and he is 3rd in the NBA in assists. He's having a career year in points, assists, rebounds and threes.

5. Nicolas Batum, Portland Trailblazers Last Rank: 5th
Batum has started in all of their games. He has career-highs in all 5 major statistical categories. He is 6th in threes made.

Joakim Noah will make his 1st All-Star appearance this month
(Image from: USA Today Sports)

1. Joakim Noah, Chicago Bulls Last Rank: 2nd

2. Tyson Chandler, New York Knicks Last Rank: 5th
Chandler is 10th in rebounds although his blocks are down this year. He anchors the Knicks' defense which is still Top 10 in the NBA.

3. Larry Sanders, Milwaukee Bucks Last Rank: Not Ranked

The NBA: Power Rankings: Week 8

Happy Holidays from Hoop Nut! The NBA keeps on going even during the holidays (did you enjoy that 5-game Christmas Special?) and the Power Rankings are right there with the Association.

The LA Clippers are undefeated in December with 3 games to go before the New Year. They are the best team in the NBA and their 14 straight wins make it no argument. The next longest win streak is at 5 games (Heat, Lakers, Raptors).

The Lakers are starting to show signs of playing decent basketball. The return of Steve Nash has made them watchable and Kobe Bryant continues to score in the 30s. Pau Gasol is at his best when making passes at the high post and shooting down low.

The Heat won their Finals rematch with the Thunder but things could be different come playoffs. The Nets are reeling and have lost 7 of their last 10. The Bulls were a no-show versus the Rockets.

Dirk Nowitzki is back with the Mavs while Amare is projected to make his season debut sooner rather than later. Andrew Bynum and John Wall still have no time tables on their return. The bottom of the standings and rankings have been consistent in the last 2 weeks with very minimal movement.

The standings are current up to December 26. The rankings from last week refer to Week 7.

Chris Paul and the Clippers have blown by their opponents in
14 straight games. How long can they keep this up?

1. Los Angeles Clippers | 22-6 | Last Week: 2 | +1
The Clippers have the longest winning streak at 14 games and they have the largest winning margin. The Clips won 10 of the 14 games by double digits. They are 2nd in assists and 3rd in team defense. Their bench has been superb and a perfect example: Clippers are 19-1 when Matt Barnes scores at least 10 points. Wow.

2. Miami Heat | 19-6 | Last Week: 4 | +2
The Heat has beaten the Thunder in 5 straight games going into last season. Their defense has held opposition below 100 in their last 8 games. LBJ was named Eastern Player of the Week for the 3rd time. Their 5-game win streak could easily turn to 8 with the next 3 games: Bobcats, Pistons and Magic. The Big 3 are all shooting over 51% from the floor.

3. Oklahoma City Thunder | 21-6 | Last Week: 2 | -1
They still cant beat the Heat and now they have their first losing streak of the season. Kevin Durant is still a close 2nd to LBJ in PER and in MVP positioning. Russell Westbrook has a career-high 8+ assists per game but he is shooting only 40% and also taking more shots than KD. Kevin Martin has been scoring but his defensive rotations need work.

4. San Antonio Spurs | 21-8 | Last Week: 7 | +3
The Spurs have Kawhi Leonard back and they have won 2 straight since his return. Manu Ginobili is also back on the floor and a healthy Spurs team will always be among the best in the West. Tim Duncan is a legitimate candidate for DPOY with his 10 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game at his advance age of 36.

5. New York Knicks | 20-8 | Last Week: 3 | -2
The Knicks lost their rematch with the Lakers on Christmas and they are 2-3 in their last 5 games, all without Sheed. Who would have thought that Rasheed Wallace being out for 3 weeks could impact the winning ways of the Knicks? Amare will be back soon and projected to come off the bench. Melo continues to shoot well from downtown, a career-high 43%.

The NBA: Happy Holidays from the Association

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from us here at Hoop Nut! Happy Holidays coming from the NBA as they unveil 5 games for our consumption on Christmas Day starting at 12 noon and ending until 1 pm Eastern time on the 26th! I wish everyday was like this! I know what I'll be doing on the 25th, how about you?

Here's a preview on the upcoming games with the predicted winner.

The highlight game of the Christmas Day Special features
the rematch of the OKC Thunder and Miami Heat
GAME 1: Boston Celtics at Brooklyn Nets
This will be the 3rd meeting of 4 games between the Atlantic division rivals. The Nets have a 2-0 series edge where Game 2 featured some shoving matches and the ejection of Rajon Rondo which ended his 10+ assists consecutive games streak at 37. The fracas started between Kevin Garnett and Kris Humphries and that will be a match-up worth watching if Humphries gets to play. He missed the last game of the Nets with an abdominal injury. Well, if Hump does not play, Garnett versus Reggie Evans or Andre Blatche is a nice under card.

Deron Williams continues to shoot horribly (39%) while Joe Johnson has started to get better at 42%, while Paul Pierce has been scorching hot in his last 2 games averaging 37.5 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists on 67% shooting. Avery Bradley could make his season debut and that makes it harder for Williams and Johnson to get their offense started. A win is crucial here since both teams are at least 5.5 games behind the NY Knicks for the division lead.

Prediction: Celtics win because Rondo loves playing in the national stage and a triple-double could happen. Plus, Rondo has been a much better point guard than Deron Williams all-season long.

The NBA: Power Rankings: Week 7

Two teams from the West are streaking. The Thunder have won 11 straight and the Clippers are not far behind with 10. It wont come as surprise on who the top 2 teams are in this week's edition.

Previous holders of the #1 spot, the Spurs and Grizzlies have struggled lately with both teams receiving 3-game losing streaks.

The New York Knicks lost their first home game last Monday but they remain the best team in the East even without Amare. The defending champs are not far behind them but they have been inconsistent.

The Lakers and Celtics are still struggling to establish a winning record while the Warriors and Hawks continue to win and surprise people.

The standings are current up to December 18. The rankings from last week refer to Week 6.

Serge Ibaka and the Thunder have been flexing
their muscles in the last 11 games, all wins.

1. Oklahoma City Thunder | 20-4 | Last Week: 2 | +1
The best record and the longest winning streak in the NBA (11) have the Thunder as the best in the league. They have 13 wins over 10 points (tops). They got their revenge on the Spurs with Serge Ibaka posting monster numbers of 25 points and 17 rebounds.

2. Los Angeles Clippers | 18-6 | Last Week: 3 | +1
The Clippers have won 10 straight and are 7 games ahead of the Lakers in the Pacific division. They already have the franchise record for longest winning streak and that could be stretched to at least 13 games with the next 3 coming againts the Hornets, Pistons and Kings.

3. New York Knicks | 18-6 | Last Week: 4 | +1
The Knicks went 1-1 with Melo injured. They had an impressive win over the Lakers where Melo got injured but he was on fire before spraining his ankle. Without Melo, Jeremy Lin came  back on Monday night to defeat his ex-team. Amare is rehabbing at the D-league and could be back next week coming from the bench.

4. Miami Heat | 16-6 | Last Week: 6 | +2
The Heat defense is coming around slowly. They have held opponents to 89 points in their last 5 games (4-1 record). They are 30th in rebounding and got pounded on the glass by the Timberwolves, 53-24 but the Heat still won by 11. That wont work often against the elite teams.

5. Memphis Grizzlies | 16-6 | Last Week: 5 | Same
The Grizzlies have won 2 straight games versus quality teams (Bulls, Jazz) after dropping 3 straight. Their defense has been superb as they now rank 1st in least points allowed. Zach Randolph is still piling up double-doubles. Their best news of the week: hiring former ESPN stat analyst John Hollinger as VP of basketball operations.

The NBA: Power Rankings: Week 6

Three teams from the West have winning streaks of 5 games or more while three teams from the East have losing streaks of 5 games or more.

The LA Lakers and their thin bench continue to struggle while the LA Clippers and their deep bench have helped them win their last 2 games. If the playoffs started today, the Lakers dont make it since they are 12th in the Western Conference.

The New York Knicks continue to impress and surprise at the top of the East. They took Round 2 of the "Borough Battle" and last week the Knicks manhandled the Heat without Carmelo Anthony. That game has to be among the most astonishing games of the season so far along with the Wizards beating the Heat and the Magic and Cavs beating the Lakers.

Meanwhile, the Western Conference finalists from last season have a combined record of 35-8. The Spurs and Thunder are the #1 and #2 teams for Week 6.

The standings are current up to December 11. The rankings from last week refer to Week 5.

Tony Parker had his first career triple-double to
lead the Spurs vs the Rockets on OT

1. San Antonio Spurs | 18-4 | Last Week: 1 | Same
The Spurs have the best road record in the NBA at 11-2. They are second in winning margin at +8.6 without 2 rotation players. Tony Parker has been amazing lately getting his first career triple-double. His last 5 games: 24 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds.

2. Oklahoma City Thunder | 17-4 | Last Week: 3 | +1
The Thunder has the current longest winning streak at 8 games with 5 of those games won by double digits. They continue to lead the NBA in winning margin and Kevin Durant has leapfrogged LeBron as the #1 player to win MVP. Kevin Martin continues to play well as Harden's replacement.

3. Los Angeles Clippers | 15-6 | Last Week: 6 | +3
The Clippers have won 7 straight after losing 4 straight with 4 of the wins coming in blowouts. Their second unit has been amazing lately, finishing the games and helping them win. The last time the Clippers have a winning streak this long was 1991.

4. New York Knicks | 16-5 | Last Week: 4 | Same
Melo continues to show that he is worthy for MVP talk. He is shooting a career-high from three and defending better. Jason Kidd has been an important part of their rotation including hitting a three in their comeback win against the Nets. The Knicks are 2-0 vs the Heat with blowout wins in both.

5. Memphis Grizzlies | 14-4 | Last Week: 2 | -3
The Grizzlies played terrible in a loss to the Hawks at home. They have struggled lately in their last 4 games going 2-2 but their defense has been top-notch. They now lead the league in least points allowed. Zach Randolph is still a beast on the glass, tied for first in the NBA in double-doubles.
