The Top 5 Rookies of #PBA2015

The 2014 draftees gave a very good account of themselves this past season, and many of them have the makings of future stars. Stanley Pringle, of course, stands out in a big way, especially since he’s the newly-minted Rookie of the Year. And how about the other neophytes? They weren’t too shabby either.

Without further ado, here they are – the top five rookies of the 2014-2015 PBA season:

The Top 5 Small Forwards of #PBA2015

The small forward spot has been quite an interesting position to watch this past season in the PBA. It remains to be populated by some of the most versatile players in the country — from do-it-all players to sharpshooters to high-flyers to defensive specialists. Gone are the days, too, when 6’0-6’2 guys played swingman. In this day age, the default size seems to be around 6’3-6’5, with some even being as tall as 6’7 (Hello, JDV!). Here we list down the five most productive SFs of this past season. The top dog here may not surprise you, but a couple might make your head shake or make you raise your brows.

The Top 5 Rookies of the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup

Everyone’s default ROY this season seems to be Stanley Pringle. That’s not necessarily wrong, of course, since he has put up the best body of work SO FAR. Still, during the Commish Cup, he seemed to take a back seat to the likes of Brian Heruela and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, and now that Pringle is in sick bay (and neck-deep in trade rumors), he slides further down from top-of-mind ROY convos. So in the event that Pringle doesn’t top the ladder in the second conference, who did?

The Top Five #PBA2015 Rookies Right Now

We all know who’s at #1, right? Right, but the rest of the field is a little difficult to gauge, since nobody has really stood out in a consistently big way. Still, there have been some great neophytes so far this season, and they’re all worth mentioning.

Without further ado, here they are – the top five rookies of the 2014-2015 PBA season as of November 23, 2014 (as always, this is based on the Player Efficiency ratings as calculated by PBA-Online.net):

Stanley Pringle is no surprise, but how about the others?

5. Anthony Semerad (GLO) - 8.2ppg, 2.6rpg, 1.2apg, 1.0 triples per game, 41.7 3pt%, 85.7 FT%, 21.8 EFF
- In GlobalPort’s short two-game winning streak (they beat Kia and Blackwater in succession before dropping a close one to Rain or Shine), Semerad was pretty solid, averaging 14 points, shooting 56% from the field, and 40% from rainbow country. His season stats are a little less stellar, but the 6’5 combo-forward still looks to be a serious contributor for the Batang Pier. If he can keep this up, he has an outside shot at maybe being the next J-Wash or RDO.

The Top Five #PBA2015 Small Forwards Right Now

Calvin Abueva has been tearing it up, so he’s definitely on this list, but who else joins him as the top swingmen of the PBA? Resident Gilas starting SF Gabe Norwood didn’t make the cut. So did the high-flying Chris Ellis and the sweet-shooting KG Cañaleta. So who joins the Beast? Well, read on and find out.

The Beast is on top, but who are the other top-performing SFs in the PBA right now?
