Doing the Asian Basketball Journal has been a little challenging this year, but it’s not because there hasn’t been much happening. On the contrary, the CBA is entering the semifinals of its annual playoffs, and the KBL just crowned its regular season champion. Things are continuing to heat up in the NBL, SBL, LBL, and IBF Superleague, too, while it’ll be Al Rayyan versus Al Sadd in the championship of the QBL. Like in previous posts, I won’t be going into a lot of detail. I’ll use mostly images and then just add captions to each one that will, hopefully, capture the essence of the latest developments in Asian hoops.
Here in the Philippines there really is no site (or person) really dedicated to the Asian hoops scene, which is why this series exists. Through this series of Asian Basketball Journals, I hope to address just that void. I believe that Asian basketball is such a vibrant source of stories, and I think this should be shared with hoop nuts here in the Philippines and beyond. Here are the highlights of this past week in Asian basketball: - The Liaoning Flying Leopards take a 2-1 series lead in the CBA Finals after beating the Beijing Ducks in a cardiac Game 3! - The KBL Playoffs saw the Incheon ET Land Elephants eliminate the Seoul SK Knights, while the Goyang Orions forced a Game 5 against the Changwon LG Sakers. - The NBL season in Japan continues, with the Aisin Seahorses, Hiroshima Dragonflies, and Toyota Alvark moving up in the standings. - The SBL Playoffs have also heated up, with both semifinal series tied at 1-1. - The second conference of the IBF Superleague is moving along well, with Azad remaining unbeaten even as Mahram and Petrochimi follow closely behind. - The Lebanese Basketball League just finished its second phase and will now move on to the crossover round. - In Qatar, Al Rayyan and El Jaish are now tied at the top after the former beat the latter this past week.
