High-School All Star Game to be telecast LIVE on Fox Sports Asia

MARCH 3, 2015 (Manila) – SLAM PHILIPPINES, the #1 ‘in your face’ basketball magazine, is bringing together once again Metro Manila’s top 24 high school basketball players for the second annual SLAM Rising Stars Classic, happening this Sunday, March 29, 2015.  

The country’s premier high school all-star game will return once again to the Gatorade Hoops Center, the official venue of this annual event, in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City, and will be carried LIVE on Fox Sports Asia, with coverage starting at 7PM.

After nearly two weeks of silence, Hoop Nut releases Episode 4 of its podcast! Rolly and I take a look at the extremely wild race for the crap seeds in the NBA Playoffs. We also attended the first ever SLAM Rising Stars Classic last weekend, and we’ll talk about who impressed us the most.

Ravena, Rivero, and MVP Huber Cani stand out in the 2014 SLAM Rising Stars Classic!

At the close of the first ever SLAM Rising Stars Classic yesterday at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City, Team Hype stood tall as the victors over Team Punk, 93-90. NU Bullpups star point guard Hubert Cani was adjudged the game’s MVP, scoring 19 points on top of 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

An unmistakably playground feel permeated throughout the pioneering event, which reminded those who were present of the McDonald’s All-American Classic in the United States. Brought to the public by SLAM Philippines, Cherifer PGM, and Titan, the first-ever Rising Stars Classic featured the best high school talents in the metropolis. Of the 22 high school hoopsters who came out to play, 10 were from the UAAP, 8 were from the NCAA, 3 were form Hope Christian HS, and 1 was from Reedley International School. Two guys — Rhanzel Yong and Michael Calisaan, both of San Sebastian College — missed the event as they attended their graduation rites. Nearly all the players are on their way to college for the upcoming UAAP and NCAA wars. Only the Nieto twins — Mike and Matt — are still going to be in high school next season as they will play out their final Juniors year with the Ateneo Blue Eaglets.

Fox Sports to air High School All-Star Game on Easter Sunday, April 20

MARCH 18, 2014 (Manila) - SLAM PHILIPPINES, the #1 ‘in your face basketball magazine’, is bringing together Metro Manila’s top 24 high school players in the first ever 2014 SLAM Rising Stars Classic presented by Cherifer PGM 10-22.

The premier high school all-star game serves as a platform to showcase the nation’s top high school players in front of coaches, scouts, pro ballers and select media. It provides these future stars another venue to prove that they belong with the elite, and ultimately, claim bragging rights.

“The SLAM Rising Stars Classic is a gathering of the best high school players, a showcase event featuring the future of Philippine hoops and a unique opportunity to introduce the future of the sport to influencers in the basketball community”, said Mico Halili, Editor-At-Large of SLAM Philippines. “SLAM Philippines believes in the dreamers. We believe in their future. We believe in the power of their dreams.”

The exhibition game will take place at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City on Saturday, March 29, tipping off at 4PM, and will air on Fox Sports at 8PM on Sunday, April 20. Replay dates are scheduled on April 21 (5PM), April 22 (5AM), April 23 (10PM), and April 26 (1PM).
