PR: 2ND ANNUAL SLAM RISING STARS CLASSIC TIPS OFF MARCH 29, 2015

High-School All Star Game to be telecast LIVE on Fox Sports Asia

MARCH 3, 2015 (Manila) – SLAM PHILIPPINES, the #1 ‘in your face’ basketball magazine, is bringing together once again Metro Manila’s top 24 high school basketball players for the second annual SLAM Rising Stars Classic, happening this Sunday, March 29, 2015.

The country’s premier high school all-star game will return once again to the Gatorade Hoops Center, the official venue of this annual event, in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City, and will be carried LIVE on Fox Sports Asia, with coverage starting at 7PM.

“Dreams are strongest among the young. As such, SLAM Philippines believes in continuing to help young dreamers chase their big dreams. For the 2015 SLAM Rising Stars Classic, our commitment to highlight the future of Philippine hoops grows even stronger,” said Mico Halili, SLAM Philippines’ Editor-in-Chief. We're gathering the best high school players. We're placing them on the biggest stage. We continue to believe in the power of their basketball dreams. ”

Guards of the Future: John Wall and Damian Lillard

Action in the 2014 NBA Playoffs has undeniably been among the best for several reasons. One of these is how the road teams have virtually negated homecourt advantage, winning an NBA Playoffs record 24 times in the first round and 32 overall. Games have been extraordinarily tight, too, with 8 first round games going into overtime (including four straight between the Grizzlies and Thunder — another NBA Playoffs record) and five first round series going the full seven games. One of the best reasons, at least for me, however, is this — we have seen the emergence of some young stars. These young guns have really impressed so far, coming up big in crunch time and showing the entire NBA fanbase that they belong in the Playoffs. Among these are Jeff Teague, DeMar DeRozan, Bradley Beal, and LaMarcus Aldridge. The ones I really want to talk about right now, though, are two guys who, despite their youth, are already among the best point guards in the NBA — Portland’s Damian Lillard and Washington’s John Wall.

Two guards who are sure to continue to rise in the future:
John Wall and Damian Lillard!

DeAndre’s Dunk on Glenn Davis? Better in Hi-Def!

So today I just saw DeAndre Jordan make a new poster and this time it starred Orlando’s Glenn “Big Baby” Davis on the receiving end of a DJ-hammer-throwdown-all-hell-broke-loose slamma jamma.

Yes, DeAndre, we enjoyed your dunkfest, too.

And it was made even more awesome because it was on awesome hi-def – props to SKYcable for that one (naks!). Saw it on NBA Premium TV HD (Ch. 175 represent!), and I’m pretty sure I’ll catch it later as well.

Now if you don’t have SKYcable yet, then you can catch DJ’s poster-making session below.

So, apparently, the man who (I hope) will lead the Chicago Bulls back to the NBA Finals (and more) is right here in Metro Manila.

Derrick Rose is in Manila as the last stop in his 2013 world tour!

Derrick Rose, the Illinois hardcourt hero (and maven of melodrama), arrived last night  (Saturday, September 14) and is set to stay in town till Monday, September 16, for his adidas D-Rose tour.

As of this writing, Rose is in the Smart-Araneta Coliseum for the Grand Finals of the adidas 3-on-3 tournament, which pits the top high school ballers in Southeast Asia! adidas Philippines actually gave away 4,000 FREE tickets to Rose’s fans for the 3-on-3 Finals.

Action from the 3-on-3 tournament elimination rounds.

And even more action from the 3-on-3 tournament elimination rounds.

Tomorrow, he will address local sports media in a press conference at the Marriott Hotel before going to the Mall of Asia Atrium for the NBA 2k13 tournament (he plays the winner in a one-game face off!).

Pumped Up Kicks: The adidas D-Rose 3.5

Official launch – January 15, 2013 in Portland, OR.

Local launch – February 1, 2013.

“This shoe takes the best things from my last shoe and made them even better. I’m more comfortable and supported on the court and bringing some real serious style too,” said Derrick Rose.

The new D-Rose 3.5s are out!
