The Top Five #UAAP77 Centers as of August 12, 2014

Though names like Kiefer Ravena, Mike Tolomia, Jeron Teng, and Roi Sumang have been floated as strong MVP contenders this season, there is still no doubt that big men dominate the stat-sheets. In the previous post, we already saw how PFs have been so productive in Season 77, but the good ol’ center spot also has its share of worthy MVP race protagonists.

Presenting the top five "men in the middle" of the UAAP.

Without further ado, here they are – the top five UAAP centers as of August 12, 2014:

The Top Five #UAAP77 Power Forwards as of August 11, 2014

Not surprisingly, the UAAP power forward position is stocked with talent. Heck, even minnows Adamson and UP have legit 4s who can mix it up and light it up at the drop of a hat. Of course, there are the requisite stat-stuffers like Mac Belo, Jason Perkins, and Troy Rosario, but, there are a couple of other names we cannot discount, including the leading Rookie of the Year candidate.

It's a rich pool of talent in our Top 5 UAAP PFs!

And, well, where has Aljon Mariano’s game gone anyway? He’s been inconsistent like crazy.

The Top Five #UAAP77 Small Forwards as of August 6, 2014

Who is the top SF in Season 77 so far?

When one talks of UAAP swingmen, it’s pretty obvious that guys like Jeron Teng, Chris Newsome, and Kevin Ferrer should be included in the conversation, right? Yes, but we also cannot leave out some of the other SFs who have been quite productive early in the season. I mean, guys like Roger Pogoy, Glenn Khobuntin, and Dave Moralde deserve to get noticed, too. So here they are, the top five small forwards in the UAAP so far.

You want something surprising, though? One of the top three guys I mentioned in that introductory paragraph didn’t even crack the top eight.

The Top Five #UAAP77 Shooting Guards as of August 2, 2014

Kiefer Ravena and Mike Tolomia are shoo-ins here, but how about the other three?

Kiefer Ravena and Mike Tolomia are two of the brightest stars outside of the PBA, and it’s no surprise they figure prominently in these rankings. Another top-shelf SG, however, doesn’t crack the top five – La Salle’s Almond Vosotros, who’s had to split time between off-guard and point guard to compensate for the season-ending injury of Thomas Torres. Joining Kief and Mike are two up-and-coming players and Kief’s old running-mate in high school.

The Top Five #UAAP77 Point Guards as of August 1, 2014

Wait, what?! No Roi Sumang?!

Ah, gone are the days of Jeric Fortuna, RR Garcia, LA Revilla, and Emman Monfort. All those guys have been drafted into the PBA and are playing at a higher level. In the current UAAP season, UE’s Roi Sumang rules the roost of point guards.

Or does he? Is UE’s top gun part of the current top five point guards, or is he outside looking in?
