RAIN OR SHINE ELASO-PAINTERS over BARAKO BULL ENERGY, 99-95
With a big break on the early exit of Barako Bull import Dermarr Johnson due to an injury, Rain or Shine finally nailed a win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, overcoming the gritty stand of the Barako locals at the Al-Shabab Sports Club.
Frontline tandem Duke Crews and Beau Belga combined for 47 points with Jeff Chan, Ronjay Buenafe and Paul Lee providing significant help at the finish as the Elasto-Painters held off the Energy in the first of the two-game PBA series here. Chan, Buenafe and Lee drained clutch shots helping the Elasto Painters notch their first win in three starts.
Johnson was helped to the bench and never returned again after suffering a groin injury just seven minutes into the game.
Barako actually managed to keep the game close, but eventually felt the ouster of Johnson at the finish, tumbling down to a third loss against a lone win.
The Energy also drew tremendous efforts from Willie Miller, Jondan Salvador, Ronald Tubid and Wynne Arboleda as they engaged the Elasto-Painters in a battle marred by couples of technical fouls.

BGY. GINEBRA KINGS over RAIN OR SHINE ELASO-PAINTERS, 89-88
Duke Crews led Rain or Shine to a mighty comeback from a 13-point deficit in the homestretch, but had a big mental lapse in the closing seconds, allowing Barangay Ginebra to escape with a squeaker of a win.
Crews dished out his most productive performance as a Rain or Shine import, collecting 28 points and 20 rebounds, but threw away his effort by forgetting to call a timeout after collaring the offensive carom following a missed shot by Mike Cortez with five seconds left in the clock. In a previous timeout, Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao’s instruction was clear – sue for time once they get possession.
The Elasto Painters, however, didn’t follow the order, instead running a transition play that they failed to complete, allowing the Kings to nail a second win in three games.
Getting an outlet pass from Crews, Gabe Norwood himself didn’t call a timeout, missing a desperation shot off Jayjay Helterbrand in the dying seconds to the delight of the predominantly pro-Ginebra crowd in the jam-packed playing venue.
Splitting their two games here, the Elasto Painters are going home Sunday with a 1-3 win-loss record.
Mark Caguioa topscored for Ginebra with 19 points, including a crucial five-point binge giving the Kings their 13-point spread at 87-74 with 4:57 left to play.

POWERADE TIGERS over MERALCO BOLTS, 94-82
Not even a new import and a returning star player could power Meralco over Powerade's persistence. Making the much-needed push at the right time, the Tigers overcame the Bolts to grab at least a share of the early lead in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.
Gary David wound up with a game-high 29 points and drew plenty of help from Dwayne Jones, Sean Anthony and Marcio Lassiter in a big second half surge that enabled Powerade to notch its second straight come-from-behind win.
Powerade showed it had great defensive capability by holding Meralco to 1-for-9 field goal shooting and by forcing six turnovers in the first six minutes of the fourth period to post an 83-73 spread from a 68-all deadlock.
2005 Fiesta Conference Red Bull import Earl Barron scored 22 points and had 18 rebounds in his first game back, but Meralco still absorbed its second straight loss and third in four games overall to drop into the company of tail-enders with Rain or Shine and Barako Bull.
Sidelined by a minor knee surgery in Meralco's first three games, Sol Mercado finally saw action. He, however, shot just 1-for-6 from the field and his three assists were offset by as many turnovers in 22 minutes of action.
Limited to just six points in the first half, Marcio Lassiter sprang back with 13 in the last two quarters while Jones contributed 15 points, 14 rebounds and a conference-high 6 blocks, with four in the decisive period.

TALK N TEXT TROPANG TEXTERS over ALASKA ACES, 110-98
Omar Samhan finished with only six points in just 16 minutes of play and went out of the game in the fourth period with an injured knee.
It was no problem, however, for Talk ‘N Text as its powerhouse local line up bailed out its struggling import and the Texters were able to hold on for a victory over the Alaska Aces.
Five Talk ‘N Text players finished in double figures with Jayson Castro and Larry Fonacier leading the way with 20 points each. Castro and Fonacier were at the forefront of the Tropang Texters’ massive breakaway in the fourth period as each of them along with Ranidel de Ocampo had a triple in a telling 17-6 run that gave Talk ‘N Text a 108-94 lead.
De Ocampo contributed 19 points and 6 rebounds, Jared Dillinger added 17 markers and 6 boards and Kelly Williams chipped in 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Tropang Texters, who notched their second win in as many games.
The Aces, who dropped to an even 2-2 slate, battled back from huge deficits behind Sonny Thoss, who scored six straight points bridging the third and fourth quarters as Alaska came to within three, 80-83, in the opening seconds of the final period.
But the Tropang Texters rediscovered their steady shooting and concluded the match by making six of their last seven attempts from the field to put away their rivals.
