The NBA 2013 Playoffs Roundup: May 9, 2013

Klay Thompson was the biggest star on a day that saw complete reversals of what happened in each series’ game ones. The Bulls got blown out by the punitive Heat, while the Warriors finally won one in San Antonio for the first time since… 1997!!! Yeah, Steph Curry was just 8 years old back then, and Duncan was still at Wake Forest!!!

Today’s Best:
  •        Klay Thompson shot 50% from the field including EIGHT of nine from rainbow country. Yes, he was unfair tonight. Oh, and did I mention the FOURTEEN rebounds, 3 steals, and the tenacious defense he put on Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. And to think Jan Vesely was picked ahead of this kid in 2011. #SMH
  •        Yeah, LeBron James, too. 19 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals – that line might not be LeBronesque, but he didn’t have to take over statistically against a Bulls team that shot just 36% from the floor.

Today’s Worst:
  •        How about Carlos Boozer shooting 3-of-9 form the field and grabbing just 4 rebounds? #Stinks
  •        Oh but how about Nate Robinson shooting 3-of-10 from the field, assisting just twice while turning the ball over four times? #StinksEvenMore

Final Score: Miami 115, Chicago 78
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - The Miami Heat bounced back in a big way in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series, dealing the Chicago Bulls their most lopsided postseason loss in franchise history with an authoritative 115-78 victory at American Airlines Arena. Miami evened the set by knocking down an impressive 60 percent of their field goal attempts and having six players score in double figures. Ray Allen led the way with 21 points in under 19 minutes off the bench, with LeBron James contributing a 19-point, nine-assist effort and Dwyane Wade and Norris Cole each notching 15 points. The Bulls were also whistled for 27 fouls, including six technicals. Four of them were handed out among forwards Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson, resulting in each's ejection early in the fourth quarter. Marco Belinelli paced Chicago with 13 points and six assists, with Noah netting 12 points before being tossed. Game 3 of this best-of-seven series will be held in Chicago on Friday.

Final Score: Golden State 100, San Antonio 91
San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - No lead is safe against the San Antonio Spurs, but the Golden State Warriors learned how to hold on to one in Game 2 as they evened their Western Conference semifinal series. The Warriors led by as many as 20 in the third quarter thanks to a dazzling shooting performance by Klay Thompson and denied another Spurs comeback to pull out a 100-91 victory at AT&T Center and steal homecourt advantage. Thompson shot 8-of-9 from 3-point range, falling one shy of the NBA postseason record, and totaled 34 points with 14 rebounds, while Stephen Curry chipped in 22 points in a rare supporting role. Golden State had lost 30 straight games in San Antonio dating back to Feb. 1997, including Game 1's double-overtime instant classic that saw the Spurs rally from 16 points down over the final four minutes of regulation. San Antonio pulled within six down the stretch Wednesday, but missed six straight shots to fall short. Tim Duncan scored a team-high 23 points, while Tony Parker added 20 in the setback. Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Oracle Arena, and Golden State won both meetings there in the regular season.
