Barako Bull leaned on the heroics of RR Garcia to repel NLEX, while Ginebra scored huge upset by beating Alaska in action from the 2014-2015 PBA Philippine Cup last night!

Point guards came to the fore last night, as RR Garcia and LA Tenorio towed their respective teams to victory.

BARAKO BULL ENERGY over NLEX ROAD WARRIORS, 92-87
Sophomore guard RR Garcia played the hero as the Barako Bull Energy survived a late rally from NLEX to win, 92-87, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Garcia scored a team-high 22 points and made several big plays late in the game as he helped his team clinch a fourth win in ten games so far. With Barako Bull up by just three points inside the final minute, the former UAAP MVP grabbed an offensive rebound and took defender Mac Cardona one-on-one for a tough finish that made it a five-point game, 86-81. Cardona made some big plays of his own, hitting a three off an inbound and later, a three-point play the hard way, as NLEX came back to within three, 90-87, with 12 seconds left. After a free throw from Willy Wilson, Garcia again came up big, swatting away a corner three attempt from NLEX rookie Juneric Baloria to help seal the win. Four other Barako Bull players finished in double figures. Wilson and Chico Lanete each scored 13, Mick Pennisi added 12 and Intal had 10. Mac Cardona scored 23 while Asi Taulava had 17 points and 15 boards for the Road Warriors, who failed to clinch a playoff berth, dropping down to 3-7.

Line of the Game: Asi Taulava - 17 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, 5/9 FGs.

JC Intal tries to pull off a move on the low block.

Mac Cardona attacked the defense aggressively and led NLEX with 23 points.

RR Garcia popped the cap, lifting Barako Bull past the Road Warriors.

BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS over ALASKA ACES, 101-92
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, behind some fourth quarter heroics from point guard LA Tenorio, pulled off a big-time victory over erstwhile league-leader Alaska, 101-92, to pick up a badly-needed win in the PBA Philippine Cup. Tenorio scored a team-high 22 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and knocked down four three-pointers as he helped the Kings snap out of a three-game funk. The Ginebra captain scored the team’s last five points in an 11-4 run early in the final period that opened up an 11-point lead for the Kings, one that they would protect until the final buzzer. Japeth Aguilar added 20 points and eight rebounds and Mac Baracael chipped in with 19 markers from off the bench. Big man Greg Slaughter posted a double-double of 12 points and 14 boards. With the win, Ginebra improved to 6-4 while Alaska, entering the game tied with San Miguel for the lead, dropped to 8-2. The Gin Kings survived Calvin Abueva’s 24 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Abueva’s teammate, JV Casio, also did well, tossing in 18 markers and 4 triples.

Line of the Game: Calvin Abueva - 24 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 7/13 FG%.
