#PBA2015 Commish Cup Roundup: February 7, 2015

Alaska bounced back from a loss by scraping by the NLEX Road Warriors last night in the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.


DJ Covington did just enough to push the Aces past the Road Warriors.

The Alaska Aces overcame a big scoring night from NLEX import Al Thornton as they escaped with a 96-95 victory at the buzzer to bounce back from an opening game loss in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan.

DJ Covington scored 24 points to lead three other Aces in double figures as Alaska banked on its depth to overcome the Road Warriors.


Vic Manuel, who came out of the game late with an injury, finished with 16 points on 8-for-12 shooting, Cyrus Baguio added 14, and RJ Jazul chipped in 12 points, including three triples for the Philippine Cup finalists.

Alaska improved to 1-1 after suffering a 20-point loss in their conference opener. NLEX, which had high hopes for the Commissioner’s Cup, made it two straight losses to start their campaign.

Thornton exploded for 39 points for NLEX in this one and had a chance to win the game for his team in the last possession, but he could not get a decent shot in the end.

Al Thornton's big night went down the drain.

Cyrus Baguio played well, scoring 14 markers to help the Aces get win #1 this conference.
