- This was a close game all throughout, but the Laotians put up a strong finishing kick to seal their first win in the competition. Despite being outrebounded, Laos was able to compensate by outshooting their foes from the field, 43% to just 33% for Brunei. Laos also capitalized on Brunei’s errors, scoring 31 points off turnovers. Siphandone Lothalath exploded with 35 points for Laos, hitting 15 of his 30 shots, while Khonesavanh Lattana and Phouthong Labouaphieng combined for 24 markers. Zainul Hussin paced Brunei with 17 points and 21 rebounds.

PHILIPPINES over MALAYSIA, 104-42

- Malaysia was expected to put up stiff resistance against the Philippines, but the Pinoys still ran roughshod over them. Kiefer Ravena proved to be very efficient, scoring 15 points in 18 minutes, while Mac Belo and Russel Escoto each dropped 14 markers off the bench. It was relatively close after the first period, when Sinag Pilipinas led by just 9 points, but a huge second quarter explosion blew the game open. The Malaysians just couldn’t recover after that. Veteran Koh Way Tek led the losing side with 11 points and 5 boards. Erstwhile impressive big man Tian Yuan Kuek was severely limited here, scoring just 2 points on 1/8 FG shooting, while young star Ivan Yeo didn’t even play a single minute.

SINGAPORE over INDONESIA, 76-41

- Hosts Singapore recorded another huge victory, drubbing Indonesia for their third win in a row. Singapore didn’t waste any time in this one, building a 19-point bulge after one period and coasting till the end. The home team shot well from beyond the arc (46.2%) and also forced 23 turnovers, from which they scored 24 points. It was a balanced attack from the hosts, with seven players scoring 5 points or more, led by Wu Qingde’s 14 markers. Hanbin Ng and Desmond Oh tallied 13 and 12 points respectively for the winners. Not surprisingly, Respati Pamungkas paced the Indons with 15 points, but he shot just 5/15 from the floor.
