PUREFOODS STAR HOTSHOTS over KIA CARNIVAL, 89-80

The Star Hotshots ended a four-game losing streak behind the stellar play of superstar James Yap as they defeated Kia, 89-80, on Saturday in an out-of-town contest in Angeles City, Pampanga.
Yap scored 23 points, including four three-pointers, to lead the Hotshots. He scored 16 of those in a red-hot first half before putting the finishing touches on the game with two clutch triples in the final minute. Import Marqus Blakely shrugged off some foul trouble to also finish with 23 points as well as makings some big defensive plays in the fourth.
Star improved to 2-4 for the PBA Governors’ Cup while Kia dropped to 3-2.
The Carnival trailed by just five points, 79-74, with just three minutes remaining before Blakely, after a split from the free throw line, stole the ball and went all the way to the other end for a layup, 82-74. LA Revilla hit a three-pointer but Yap came up big for Hotshots, responding with a triple on the other end. Blakely then swatted another long range attempt from Revilla and Yap buried another three to make it, 88-77, with just 22 seconds remaining in the game.
Taiwanese star forward Jet Chang paced Kia with 17 points, but he shot just 7/19 from the field. Hamady N’Diaye recorded 13 points, 18 rebounds, and 6 blocks, while pint-sized LA Revilla flirted with a triple-double, putting up a dozen markers, 7 boards, 6 dimes, and 2 steals.
