The Kia Carnival completed a late rally to escape erstwhile leader Barako Bull Energy, 71-68, in PBA Governors’ Cup action Wednesday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Asian import Jet Chang finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds to pace Kia, which snapped a two-game skid to improve its record to 4-3.
Barako Bull was still up by six, 67-61, with 5:38 left in the game when the Carnival launched a 9-1 run late to grab a 70-68 lead with 1:11 left.
LA Revilla added 10 points for Kia, while import Hamady N’Diaye had 8 points and 14 rebounds.
Carlo Lastimosa and Chico Lanete each made 13 points to lead Barako Bull, which settled for a share of second place with a 6-2 slate.
Joseph Yeo, who scored 19 points and 10 assists in the Energy’s last outing, struggled with zero points on 0-of-11 shooting. Barako Bull import Liam McMorrow also had a subpar outing, dropping just a dozen points in 41 minutes.

RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO-PAINTERS over NLEX ROAD WARRIORS, 106-102

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters squandered a 29-point lead and had to weather a furious fourth quarter storm by the NLEX Road Warriors to escape with a 106-102 victory in PBA Governors’ Cup action Wednesday night at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Import Wendell McKines posted 33 points, 20 rebounds, and 2 blocks, while Paul Lee added 20 points for Rain or Shine (4-4), which saw its huge third quarter lead vanish.
ROS ruled the battle of the boards and was +10 in 2nd chance points. The Painters also benefitted from good free throw shooting as they made 23 of their 27 charity shots.
Asian import Michel Madanly led the way for NLEX, which dropped to 2-6, with 20 points, but that wasn’t enough to prevent them from losing their second straight game. The Road Warriors’ other import, Kwame Alexander, struggled to shoot only 2/10 from the floor and finished with a paltry 8 markers.
