#PBA2015 Govs Cup Roundup: June 13, 2015

The Alaska Aces tied the San Miguel Beermen atop the league standings after beating the Barako Bull Energy, while the Rain or Shine Elasto-Painters continued their meteoric rise after upending the Star Hotshots in action from the 2015 PBA Govs’ Cup.

The Alaska Aces came back from a 22-point halftime deficit to stun Barako Bull, 101-95, and grab share of the lead in the PBA Governors’ Cup standings on Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Alaska, trailing 62-40 at the half, went on a 30-9 run to open the third quarter to all but erase Barako Bull’s lead before finishing the job in the fourth quarter, where they outscored the Energy, 29-17.

Import Romeo Travis scored 23 points, including 12 in the third quarter run that brought them back to within one point. He also finished with 14 rebounds and 5 assists.

Chris Banchero added 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Calvin Abueva chipped in with 16.

The Aces and the Energy were tied in second place with 6-2 records heading into the matchup. Alaska moved up to 7-2, while Barako Bull dropped to 6-3 after the game.

Barako Bull, behind hot starts from import Liam McMorrow and Chico Lanete, grabbed a 32-17 advantage in the opening period.

McMorrow finished with 26 points and 15 rebounds for the Energy.

Calvin Abueva and the Aces have moved into a tie for first place alongside SMB.

JC Intal and the rest of Barako Bull squandered a huge first half lead.

Romeo Travis put up big numbers again as the Aces broke their tie at second place.

Rain or Shine continued its climb up the PBA Governors’ Cup standings after picking up a fourth straight win, this time at the expense of the Star Hotshots, 103-88, on Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

After starting the conference by winning only one of its first five games, the Elasto Painters have now improved to 5-4, good for a tie for fifth place in the standings.

Wendell McKines posted 28 points and 14 rebounds in their latest win, where they led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Jeff Chan added 16 points and 4 assists in a little over 18 minutes off the bench, while Paul Lee finished with 13.

Rain or Shine spoiled a huge offensive game from Star’s Marc Pingris, who scored 25 points on 11-for-15 shooting in the game. Pingris also had 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

Line of the Game: Wendell McKines (ROS) - 28pts, 14rebs, 1stl, 11/18 FGs.

Jervy Cruz and the rest of ROS continued their rise to the top tier.

Marc Pingris played a wonderful game only to see it go down the drain.

Wendell McKines did a wonderful job outplaying Marqus Blakely.
