Box scores.
The Philippine Cup champion San Miguel Beermen showed their ability to overcome adversity as they came back from a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit to win, 103-95, and take a 2-0 lead in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

San Miguel took Alaska’s best shot early in the fourth quarter but dominated the endgame, closing out on a 13-0 run while holding the Aces scoreless in the last 2:40 of the contest.

Import Arizona Reid finished with 37 big points alongside seven assists and five steals, while Marcio Lassiter scored 17 points, including five three-pointers.

PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo had another double-double, posting 16 points and 14 rebounds despite struggling early in the contest.

Behind an explosive performance from Reid, who earlier lost out on the Best Import of the Conference award to Alaska’s Romeo Travis, and some of San Miguel’s usual three-point shooting, the Beermen led by as many as 10 points in the first half.

The Aces, though, looked like they had much more fight in them this game and managed to remain within three points, 47-44, at the break.

In the third quarter, Alaska’s starting backcourt of JVee Casio and Cyrus Baguio got into the act. They scored 14 of the Aces’ first 16 points off of halftime including all but two of the team’s points in an 11-5 run that drew the team even at 55-all.

Alaska then opened the fourth on a 12-3 run, led by Abueva, who was held out of the third quarter despite his fine play in the first half.

‘The Beast’ found Rome Dela Rosa for two points in transition, scored on a drive to the hoop and even knocked down a triple as the Aces grabbed a nine-point lead, 85-76.

But San Miguel’s shooting once again came to the fore with Alex Cabagnot knocking down a pair of triples as the Beermen stormed back into it.

Travis scored to give Alaska a 95-90 advantage with 2:40 remaining.

San Miguel then unleashed a huge response with Lassiter knocking down a three-pointer and Reid driving to the hoop and drawing a foul, tying the game at 95-all. Reid missed the extra free throw but Lassiter drilled another from the corner to put the Beermen on top.

They then took care of business on defense and from the free throw line as they finished strong.

Line of the Game: AZ Reid (SMB) - 37pts, 2rebs, 7asts, 5stls, 1blk, 4 triples, 14/28 FGs.

Calvin Abueva and the Aces took another hit as they sank to 0-2 in the Fials.

Marcio Lassiter lit up the Aces anew, hitting 5 triples.
