Ateneo rebounded with a win over
Letran, San Sebastian handed SWU another defeat, while the Fighting Maroons
absorbed loss #2 at the hands of Arellano in the 2013 Filoil Flying V Preseason
Premier Cup yesterday at the San Juan Arena.

In the first game, the
Malayan-Mapua Red Robins scraped by the FEU-FERN Baby Tamaraws, 56-55. Mapua
was led by Noah Lugo’s 17 points on 8-of-16 FG shooting. He also grabbed 7
rebounds, and had 3 steals. For FEU, Rob Aquino, Richard Escoto, and Marvin Lee
combined for 38 points in the loss. The lanky Escoto also hauled down 12
boards.

The second game saw the NU Lady
Bulldogs narrowly beat the LPU Lady Pirates, 83-78, in overtime. Shelly Gupilan
and Tin Abriam scored 21 and 20 points respectively for the Bullpups, who also
benefited from Cams Escoto’s 12 points and 12 rebounds. Lyceum was led by the
combined 51 points of Mich Corpuz, Janelle Mendoza, and Check Cabinbin.

In the third game, Jon Rebollos
and Ian De Vera spearheaded San Sebastian’s romp over the SWU Cobras, 84-73.
Rebollos and De Vera combined for 38 points as the Stags upped their slate to 1
win and 1 loss. Jaymark Perez also did well with 10 points and 10 rebounds,
while SWU was led by Landry Sanjo and Melvin Holper, who scored 16 and 15
markers respectively.

The fourth game featured a resurgent
Ateneo five defeat the Letran Knights, 88-81, and get back on the winning track
after their first loss this past weekend. Kiefer Ravena exploded for 33 points
against the Knights while also grabbing 6 rebounds, handing out 6 assists, and
stealing the ball twice. Undersized power forward Chris Newsome also did well
with 13 points and 13 boards. Highly-recruited former RP-Youth standout Rey
Nambatac led Letran with 19 markers.

The last match of the day saw the
Arellano Chiefs beat the UP Fighting Maroons, 74-66. James Forrester led the
way with 18 points and 6 rebounds, while Nard Pinto, speedster Gio Jalalon, and
the comebacking Ketih Agovida combined for 34 markers. Tata Marata sizzled for
UP with 19 points on the strength of 5 triples, while big man Raul Soyud had 13
points and 6 rebounds. Arellano moved up to 2-0 while UP sank to 0-2.
